Selling a bike to the States

I was just wondering if anyone has sold a bike to someone in the states? Do you know what was required for the buyer to register and title the bike? I am looking at buying a bike from up North and wanting to know what I will be getting into. The bike is going to be delivered to my house by the owner...he is headed to Phoenix Arizona for bike week and will be passing through Flagstaff AZ.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't think a Canadian can bring it into the US to sell. The buyer has to import it into the US. I sold a vehicle to a US citizen last fall. He had to come and get it (or have a broker/shipper do it, expensive). I gave him a bill of sale and the registration/title paperwork. VIN numbers on the papers must match what's on the vehicle (way back when pre what we now know as VINs that wasn't always the case, but no problem as long as the vehicle stayed in Canada). His border crossing was problem free.

more info

we need more info on the bike . is 25 years or older?? if the bike is 25 years or older then it is very ,very easy to do this. if the bike is newer then there are some other steps to take. is the bike an original Canadian market bike ( originally sold in Canada )? or is the bike a U.S bike imported to Canada and now going back to the U.S? was this model of bike ever officially brought to the U.S by the manufacturer ( sometimes we get different bikes in Canada HONDA VARADERO being an example )

i have bought and sold bike to and from the U.S but need to know more about the bike before i can offer any advise.

I've done several the other way and it's easy for a bike of the vintage.

Since your seller is delivering he will have to complete the border paperwork for you. Consider getting access to the paperwork before hand, completing it and sending it to the owner so he'll have all your info ready to go at the border. He may have to pay a fee, which coming into Canada is 213 bucks.

Go for it and Good luck... fun bike
