Got out for the afternoon finally.First time on a trialer in 35 years for this vintage 60 yr old dude. The bike is waaaaay more capable than i'll ever be.I was very surprised how much low end it had even in 3rd or 4th. (last trialer was a Beamish 250) The light weight makes it stupid easy to pop over riverbanks and rockpiles.
Let the goodtimes roll!

Well I did a little disassembly today to perform some spring cleaning and some overdue maintenance on my 2001 Gas Gas 321 TXT. I have had an exhaust leak right at the head and at where the front pipe met the first silencer since I have had the bike, so I wanted to address those two issues. I had only one rivet left on the rear silencer, so once I removed the silencer I drilled the last one out and had a look, the exhaust packing appeared fine at the end of the last silencer, so I don't think I need to remove all of it and replace it. I do have an issue trying to remove the middle or front silencer, whichever you call it, I thought the bottom fastener on it was a 9mm bolt, but it wasn't, than I thought it must be an allen head with the center packed full of dirt, but it wasn't. I now think it it is a stud of some kind that I have to pry a clip off of. How is that fastener removed? I took two pictures of it in the group of pics I took tonight in the link above. I know that the Trials Shop will cut open and clean and reweld shut that silencer to make it perfect again, but since I am unemployed I cannot afford that at the moment, so I was wondering if I could clean that silencer out by putting it in a wood stove full of coals and cooking it out that way? I did check the water pump, all looks ok there, I am going to flush out the radiator good and put fresh coolant in it. One question though are those stock hose clamps reusable or should I plan on getting some hose clamps? I did loosen the head screws and will remove the head once I can borrow a soft mallet so I can clean the carbon off the piston and head. I am trying to get together a list of all that I need to get her right for this spring/summer, as of now I know I need fork seals and sliders, the bolt that holds the lower clutch line and its bleeder screw, the front counter sprocket cover, and I suspect the clutch plates as I have not confirmed my steel plates are warped yet but I believe that to be the case.

That clip is just stuck. Put a flat blade screwdriver in between the clip and pry. While doing so unscew the bolt. I would not worry about the center muffler. If you try to burn it out you will be looking for a new one! And if you have the packing I would replace it. You can not see anything with out actually removing the old packing.

Agreed, it seldom looks too bad at the ends, but I bet in the middle it is much worse off.
