Pulled out a 2nd in cvet. Pretty pumped on it, considering its the first race of the year, and I'm really not in "race shape" yet.

The spring challenge trails were boney as hell and had some nasty water holes to go trough. The trails reminded me of those rocky Pachaug sections that the Rhody Rovers send you through at the Leyden enduro, and the rocky single track trails at the top of Mt Misery. They made the loop I normally run seem like the Sandy Lane trails.

I was last off my line because the bike didn't start on the first try but by the time I finished my first lap I made it up to 3rd place. I picked up the pace a bit on the 2nd lap, passed a bunch guys and only let 2 guys with yellow numbers plates (B riders) by me, as well as some kid on a 2-stroke who was faster than me. But when I finished the 2nd lap I had somehow dropped to 4th! I was screaming at the check, "How the fuck did I lose a position?? Fucking sand baggers!" You see, I thought one of the B riders that had passed me was riding in my class. I tried going faster the 3rd lap but was too wore out by then. I was still able to pass people who were more tired than me, or were stuck in the water holes.

I stalled out on a couple of those water holes on the last lap and was almost to the end of the race when the bike just shut down on me right in a streambed before the grass track, where all the spectators were waiting. The bike wouldn't start back up! It would pop over and idle but when I gave it gas it just died. I was furious and screamed, "Are you fucking kidding me! This close to end?", right in front of everyone. A spectator came down and told me to let it idle for a bit before I gave it gas and then to bring on the gas slowly. It worked! Spectators are the best! I got the bike running but lost at least 2 minutes sitting there and at least one position.

At the finish, the sign said 5th place. But when the score sheets were posted I end up in 4th in C senior. Turns out they gave 2 guys in my class the same transponder number so the scoring system was marking one of them as being in first place because that number had gone through the check more times than anyone else. This is why I had dropped a position on the 2nd lap, it had nothing to do with sandbaggers.

I was upset with a 4th but the tragedies a couple other riders had that day put my bad luck into perspective.

Well, whoever you are, , you obviously have the speed to get out of the C class. Sometimes it's just eliminating those little mistakes. Racing is kind of a coulda, shouda, woulda thing. Hang in there, the big trophy is coming.

If anyone is interested in a little MX practice, Echo valley (AKA Flach's farm) is having an open practice this Sunday.

Myself and a few other inmates will be there.
