GREAT ride and write up. Looked like alot of fun! Burt always added that extra dimension.
If you want to see where that route (Ruta del Cakebaker) originated go to http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthre...eferrerid=3049 and it starts around post #18.

Burt's sons,Tim and Brad, along with friend Sherry started the infamous Baja ride that started it all Funny how that ride is still paying dividends.
Looks like it changed alot since then - graded roads and all.

Had fun reading it thanks for the posts and the memories.

I had a great time in Mexico and never did feel uneasy, or threatend, all the riders were great and we got along very well for 5 completely different people, I would ride with any of them again and would recomend them as fellow riders, thanks for veiwing, Gregg

The main reason I don't pick out those high end hotels is not because I'm so frugal, (please refrain from comments) it is because the crowd that is likely to be there is not too trustworthy. How trustworthy could some one be that was willing to pay 200 extra pesos' for a private toilet? All joking aside they had nice quarters and as long as they were gone before the owner returned and exclaimed "WTF" they were in good shape. great ride, great people, great RR.

Your link to the 2008 ride is appreciated. Just like Baja, progress is a double edged sword. The run to LaPaz is no longer as difficult as 5 years ago and the backdoor to Batopilas is not the same either.

I feel very fortunate to have some limited experience with both places before they get paved over.....coincidentally, Baja Nov. 2010 with an XRR, Baja March 2011 with an XRR, Baja March 2012 with the 990Adv and now, Barrancas Del Cobre on the 690e. With the ongoing development of the road system, I think that the bigger bikes like the 990 Adv might now be candidates to take through that back door......I know several riders who are skilled enough to ride what we did on the bigger bikes.

I'm not sure who provided Burt with the tracks that he loaded, but if it was your path that you blazed, Muchas Gracias.
