Hey redog1, hiya larryboy, howdy RedRockRider!

great to see you guys - thanks for reading!

Saturday 3/23/13, continued.

I hopped back on for this next section...
It was nice. Lots of Joshua Trees.

The next canyons were kinda sandy...

Very sandy.
We missed a turn at one point, lost our momentum and had a get off. Sigh.

But, it was pretty.

Radek was into it!

Go, Ceasar!

Gah! More deep sand...

Bartek thought maybe this wasnít the best 2up section...he was probably right.
(Iíve made a huge tiny mistake)

This canyon was a dead end.

OK, here we go - we missed a turn.

Found some cows, though!

I liked this part so I did super short video. Just because.
49 second clip. Tuba music for Scott.

I thought this part of the road looked cool.

The golden light was nice. But, it meant the sun was going down...

The warm light made everything look so nice...

But, when we turned....Augh! The blinding sun!

Between the thick dust and the sun in their eyes...

I donít know how they didnít crash...

Ceasar, would you prefer cold silver bullets or a warm wet cloth towel at each stop???? that's what i thought ( reference to Casey McCoy and Paul Krause-KTM Bend Rally , they had a great crew/chase guy too) next time i will have towels too, lol.

Canimal makes the 990 look small

BillUA, yes you would love to ride your KX 500 here, very fast course

I want the silver bullets for sure. The towels might put me to sleep.

I don't know about "epic" - it's only 2 days of riding
Little Wan's narration skills and Big Wan's perma-grin, with all the WanKERs in tow makes this stuff EPIC. Creation of the ADHD Production Co. moves all y'all to GALACTIC. Carry on, many warm and flava-full taco's to ya's.

Hola Goggles y Smartek y KTMADV!

Aww, Scott - anyone can make a tiny huge tiny mistake
It only adds to the adventure.

Nice bars, Smartek!
Mmm...tacos.
Happy Easter to you and Mrs. Bartek, too!
Hope the Easter bunny brings you some chocolate!

haha, Ceasar knows the importance of hydration.
(I thought you might post that one...
)

Heh, thanks, nevermind!
OK, if you say it's epic, who am I to argue??
So glad you're enjoying the report, thanks for reading!

Saturday 3/23/13, continued.

More pretty light.

Blurry, but I don’t care.

It was going to be dark soon...

We were almost at Goldfield at this point.

Just needed to find Scott...

There he is!

When we pulled up, he said...”Hey, Matt - what's the flat count now?....”

Matt: "just one. Why?"

Scott: “.....‘Cause I have two.”

(I’ve made a tiny huge tiny mistake...)

Flat count -

Matt - 1
Scott - 2

Aw, Scott - not to worry.
The guys were on it (like Bartek on a taco!).

photo: KTMADV

Some people were more helpful than others...

photo: KTMADV

Scott had 1 spare, but not two.
First step was to get the Honda off the trailer.
Then they got the tires arranged so Scott could limp into Tonopah.

The boys were looking at a night ride - it was getting dark quickly.
Rick’s light is barely better than a candle, so his bike went on the trailer and he rode with me.
Scott told us to go on ahead and secure the rooms (reserved, luckily),
and he’d meet us there.
So, I drove the Ridgeline, and we went into town.

Us WanKers did a lot of night riding in Baja
but I never had video to share.
This time, Matt got some.
A couple screen shots....

I thought it was kind of neat, so I have a short clip.
The first part is normal, with some road hazards just for fun...
but about halfway through I sped it up.
4x, then 8x (til the 990 sounds like a 2 stroke ) all the way through Tonopah...
ending at the motel door.

I have to thank Goggles for the motel.
Originally, the guys wanted to camp. They were pretty set on it, actually.
Then Scott emailed that the forecast was for 30įF.

He said the Clown Motel only had 6 rooms left (and we needed 3).
Crap!
Wait. Did you say “Clown Motel?”

Anyway, the next morning I called and reserved 3 rooms.

I’m not exactly scared of clowns, but I’m not into them either.
So, when I walked into the lobby and saw this...

I admit I had a slight twinge of "I've made a huge tiny mistake..."

I blame Poltergeist.
(okay, maybe I’m a little scared of them...)

So, Smartek had planned on making a huge sausage feast for us.
He had special Polish sausage, artisan bread, and all the fixings.
Unfortunately, the BBQ (and the bread) were locked in the Ridgeline trunk...
and the trunk was jammed.

(I could go take a pic, but it’s easier to snag one from the interwebs)

It was awful. We tried everything.

First Rick, Scott and I attempted to open the trunk.
Then, Matt. No luck.

I’m so sorry, Bartek! We still feel really bad about screwing that up for you.

At least the tons of beer that Ceasar and Radek brought weren’t locked in the trunk!
(thanks, fellas -
that beer was great! )

So, instead, we ended up at the Mizpah Hotel restaurant.

It was 10pm, so we were lucky we even had that option!

I tried to get a photo before everyone started eating, but
they were hungry!

Mmmmm...burger. The fries were good, too.

Some drunk lady tried to lure the guys into this bar.
Who knew that Tonopah was such a happenin’ place?

But not for us.
The next day was going to be even longer.

Everyone needed their beauty rest.

You've got to keep these reports going. I finished reading the Baja trip and I get to move seamlessly into a Vegas to Reno ride report. Thanks again Kelly. Always a great report.

shame on you LittleWan. Two RRs in a row? You're getting us addicted. Now you just put tons of pressure on yourself, we're all your little customers and we'll need our fix. MORE RRs!!!! All the time!!!!

Seriously though, your RRs are always killer.

Hi Bronco, Hi jadedillusion!
Thanks you guys, great to have you reading along.
I know! Two reports in a row - it was a fluke. We just had too much fun with those guys!

MORE RRs!!!!
Oh man, if I try to do even one more this year, my head might explode.

Read this report... s...l...o...w...l...y....

Sunday 3/24/13

Todayís first map.

The guys went off to do their thing and I went with Scott to check on the trailer.
We had lucked out - this was the only tire place within 100 miles...
AND this was the very first weekend they had been open on a Sunday!
Without them, we would have been SOL.

I should have gotten a better photo of him, but thatís Todd.
He was a super nice guy and helped Scott load the Ridgeline.
If all goes well, Todd will be racing his Dodge Neon this May.

So, while we were getting to know Todd,
the guys were tearing it up in the desert...

Itís so nice when Matt and Radek ride together - thereís twice the GoPro footage to pull from.
How about a little video?
I think this is the first time you guys will have seen BigWan riding solo!
Usually weíre 2up and Radek wasnít filming at the KTM rally in Bend...

(Sorry, no HD - the letterbox format cuts off their heads...)

Those two ride so well together!

This was quite the sandy wash. Bet Matt was glad to be by himself...

While Scott and I were scanning the hills for dust,
the phone rang (we had Smartekís smartphone).
It was Rick. He needed some roadside assistance...

Matt had smelled oil when he was riding behind Rick,
when they checked the XR, no oil showed on the dipstick.
Uh oh. Into the truck, mister.

Rick and I rode with Scott until the next pit.
As we approached the meet up point, we saw Matt roaring down the road - holy shit, he was flying.

Show off.

After I changed into my gear, I went with Matt and Rick got to ride shotgun.
(Rick - Scott has good taste in snacks, doesnít he? )

Mitas.
It was still feeling good.

So, after that pit stop, the riding was incredible.

It was sandy and fast with really nice turns.
Banked berms and great flow...
Matt and I had the best time on that section...it was magic carpet riding. Sigh.

Of course, no photos (too fast), no video (forgot).
Oh well. I think it was between pit 9 and pit 10.
Might be worth a visit if you're in the area.

I took this photo when we stopped. I think the guys enjoyed it as well.

The next section had some snow - that was neat.
It was a little chilly, but nice. Love that clean air.

We could hear Ceasar and Radek, but it was hard to see them.

There they are - the orange really catches the eye out here...

More snow.

Then we dropped in elevation.

We were getting close to Mina, NV.

Ceasar had a smartphone, so he called Scott.
They decided to meet further down the course (past Luning).

Radekís rim was still looking good!

Another shot of the Mitas
