Except for the paint, what is different?

Unless you're talking about the old Star...

That looks like polycarbonite (SP?). They used to be candy colored fiberglass with rubber trim.

Ahh...you're talking about the metalflake ones. I don't remember if it was Bell but somebody in that era was using that cheesy chrome piping.

My first helmet was metalflake silver and the liner was black foam rubber instead of polystyrene. What a POS.

Somebody must be selling them since there's a guy near me who works at a pizza place and he's sportin' the loudest copper metalflake helmet I've ever seen. He's got a gorgeous 883R that he's (sadly) trying to turn into a bobber or chopper (recently added a flat-black sissybar). No amount of talking could convince him how cool the bike is bone stock.

.

Arthur Flumer made helmets with plasti-chrome trim around the opening.
Good helmets. I bought one so I could take my younger brother riding and used it on a bunch of girls heads as well. Later with a Joffa mouth guard it was my woods helmet for years riding my Can-Am Sonic.

Which is JUST the way I'd want it, be it that, or the painted-on stripes of a Royal Enfield.

Character, realness, beauty, flow.

Leave the precision bullshit to Honda and mass-produced bikes. I won't go as far as to say art and precision don't mix, but when it comes to painted surfaces (vs. engineered, CNC'd aluminum strut braces, etc.), stroke width discrepancies, on a small scale, is the addition of the human touch. It's what, if that artist were to recreate that exact paint scheme, would make both fuel tanks (in this case) equally valuable and cherishable while each being its own gem. On other objects it's what would make a second item as collectable as the first, vs. just having 'another.'

So I should continue to wear this one instead eh?

What should I do with the ugly pos that I just ordered? (thanks again F.E.) Should I also throw out my helmet in the post a few above, since it's also an ugly POS as you say? (btw, they are really nice, light fiberglass shell helmets)

whew! I wouldn't want to be 'uncool' or anything. Fashion is everything, if you can't tell from the photo. BTW, that was after taking a hobo shower at the beach salt showers, three days bike camping left me a dirty smelly hippy, and regardless of how much I sceered some tourist (really, I did, some dude's wife was calling him to come back to her and eyeing me with a paranoid look, as I washed my yarbles)
