Covering things like; how to handle hill climbs, bog holes, ruts and whoops. Tricks for bike prep. Riding positions (crucial for difficult terrain), clutch control etc etc.
It will obviously appeal to those with smaller bikes, although last time we did one of these rides, we had a few DR650's along.

It would be a taste of this sort of stuff, but obviously at a more easily digested level

Anyone here keen on that sort of thing?

I would be very keen!

Would be a great chance to practice some of the more technical moves.

OK you crazy kids. It's ON!!!!

Check out this link to the ride thread on DBW.
http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/s...d.php?t=102120

If you would like to come along, just list your name here, please note, entry for this ride is by donation of around $15.

As many of you would know by now, our much loved riding buddy, and all around dirt-bike queen - Melissa - is headed to the Finke Desert Race in June.
Now, you may not be aware that she is funding the trip herself, and that the expenses for such an entry run very high indeed. Many thousands of dollars in fact.

A few years ago, Mel was seriously injured in an accident with a drunk driver. Her fight to walk again would have been effort enough, but now she runs Tri-athalons and races dirt bikes!!! We are very proud of her, and are keen to help her realise her dreams.

So we, her friends would like to show our support by offering the

'Send Mel to Finke' Introduction to Enduro skills ride and BBQ!!

This ride is for everyone, but it's especially for newer riders who would like to step up from Grade 1 riding, and have a go at some Grade 2 and 3 terrain, at an extremely easy pace, and with total support from more experienced riders.
I encourage the chicks to get on this one too, all skill levels are welcome.

THE PLAN:

We will have discussions and demonstrations of basic enduro riding skills, such as:
Body positioning (riding standing up etc)
Slow riding
Emergency braking on gravel
Balance
Water crossing
Riding in deep sand
How to tackle rocky hills and more.
Also some handy hints for preparing your bike, maintenance, handling the bike when in tight situations. All the stuff it usually takes months to pick up... the hard way!

After the ride, we will put on a BBQ snag sizzle and some light beers and soft drinks.

So come along, grab some skills, have a great social ride day with no pressure at all, meet our very own lady racer, enjoy some food, a drink and some great company.

All we ask is that you make a donation of around $15 towards Mel's entry and support fees.

WHEN: SUNDAY MAY 12
WHERE: MATTHEW FLINDERS REST AREA, STEVE IRWIN WAY, GLASSHOUSE
MEET: 8.00 am for 8.30 ride brief and the first skills demo.
BRING: Registered bike, license or learners, all safety gear including knee and elbow armour, water, camera, $15 and a good sense of humour and a taste for adventure!

AS WITH ALL OUR RIDES, YOU SHOULD RIDE AT A PACE THAT YOU FEEL IS SAFE. YOU SHOULD NEVER ATTEMPT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH, AND YOU SHOULD SEEK ADVICE OR HELP IF UNSURE.
YOU MUST READ AND AGREE TO THE DISCLAIMER http://snail-trails.sportsontheweb.net/disclaimer.htm BEFORE COMING ON ANY GROUP RIDE.
THIS IS AN INFORMAL, NOT FOR PROFIT RIDE, NO RESPONSIBILITY IS TAKEN OR IMPLIED.

Hey Strummer

Would the KLR650 be too big to try this?

Hey Wasca, well, good question mate. It's entirely up to you.
Now MOST of the route, should be similar to the Snail Trails ride at Woodford. But there may be some sections which could be a bit tricky.

The areas where we do the skills practice are accessible from the main tracks, so I'd say you should be right on the KLR, even if you have to avoid a few bits.

Note to all: Big bikes like Wasca's should only come along if the riders are fairly capable already. This ride is called 'Enduro' for a reason! It's not really a Snail Trail ride, although the same principles of help available, slow and careful apply.

The Grid so far:

Strumm - Lead wobbler
Sandy - Lolly wobbler
B1 - Wobbly cameraman
mGary - Wobbly sweep/helper
Melissa - demonstrator and helper
Kirstie - chief catering officer
Scott - Helper
Young-gun-640 - Observer, rookie cameraman

Awesome, great to see some interest in this ride.
If anyone would like to donate for Mel, but can't make the ride, just PM me and we'll work something out. I know Mel will really appreciate any support she can get.

Once you've done this ride, you can feel more comfortable doing stuff like this:

Our Easter ride, 4 days of heaven on a stick!

And then you get to deal with this sort of problem on multi-day rides. Tough, I know...
