Well I went to Magic dave's magical shed of dreams.

Gave him money in exchange for a A4 white bit of paper that allows me to use my cafe racer on the public roads, but only after I give some more money to someone else for a round bit of paper to stick on my pin board

Everybody wants a dollar eh? I'll be in there for an MOT in the morning, which I hope will be passed without any issues to resolve, I could really do without the hassle. Glad to see The Caffy is back on the road

So now there's 12 months MOT on the DMW. It went thru/ough without any problems - the plate's the right size and is now complete with rear reflector*, the brakes passed the percentage test and there was no sign of wobble on the needle when the fronts were tested, and all bearings etc. were well within acceptable firmness levels.

I'd like to try a late type** starter motor as I get the feeling the thing may be on it's last legs, and there's still trouble starting from cold, and an intermittent misfire at mid revs/mid throttle, but this seems the respond to WD40 so I still have a feeling it's electrical.

9167 miles ridden in the last year. Well, I say ridden, some of those will have been pushed...

* The aftermarket LED rear light unit has a clear lens rather than a coloured reflector type lens.
** That is 9 tooth starter for light (late) flywheel, either Bosch or Valeo - donations accepted :-)

I can't see how we are supposed too buy fuel that is plain dangerous.
you fill bike or car with this crap and park it in a car park or multi story and walk away. the fuel then leaks over the hot engine and causes a massive fire.

Half assed semi informed night time ramblings...

Whilst I would generally support the purported broader aims of the introduction of E10 & E15 fuels, I can't help but ponder on the following:

- One might suggest that had it not been for Prohibition, we would most likely have all been running Ethanol and/or Methanol based fuels anyway, which the earliest internal combustion engines ran on it if I recall correctly. It could be argued that Prohibition had more to do with stemming the independent production of vehicle fuels and reinforcing the interests of the then emergent oil companies than with a moral stance on the production, consumption & Yee Haw transportation of alcohol by Good Ol' Boys way on down in Hazzard County... It may have been pushed thru/ough on a ticket of sobriety & morality, but it served another agenda?

- With the increase of the Ethanol percentage not only is the price of peterol/gaz generally rising, but the yield per gallon is perhaps falling too? If I recall correctly the MPG of such fuels will be significantly lower i.e. 30/35% less energy content per volume, so it would seem that the price keeps rising but the MPG keeps falling - "vehicles will typically go 3–4% fewer miles per gallon on E10 than on straight gasoline.1" or "1 Gallon of ethanol contains about 76,000 BTU (BTU- is the amount of energy that is contained it). Gasoline has about 116,000 BTU - to make 1 gallon of ethanol which contains 76,000 BTU, it requires 98,000 BTU just to make it."

Hastily garnered references:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1151448AAMdaBB
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/ethanol.shtml
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol#As_a_fuel

Of course it's far too late to debate the introduction of such fuels, as the decision was made more than a decade ago, yet we must still be aware of the issues it raises for all of us besides those of compatibility & vehicle damage.

FYI:
