Electric bikes belong in an Electric bike forum, not thumpers nor two strokes as they're neither.

I know... The regulars hate splits like this because they have become used to the way it is and the ones who got frustrated because they can't find what they're looking for in giant threads aren't here to weigh in. But it's still time, I'm afraid to say.

The only question is what names deserve their own subforums. BMW, KTM, Husky, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha?

Thanx Baldy!
I've been thinking of this necessity myself for quite some time.
As you have suggested, the forum has become too much of an obstacle course.
Lately I have come to dread the prospect of having to wade into it!
As for a Grande Plan, I'm sure you will think of a great one.
However, I would like to suggest the following:

KTM singles DEFINITELY need a single forum for at least two reasons:

1. Because there are so many different models of KTM singles to serve as subdivisions within that forum.

2. Because KTM's are a work in progress straight from the factory. KTM Corporation uses it's customers as test pilots to find the real-world flaws in their bikes so they can improve them later. In the mean time WE must constantly find ways around these inadequacies, and we need to consult each other to do a good job of it. Greater efficiency would really help!

A separate forum for KTM singles would be greatly appreciated!

Split by displacement class

Thank the ADV Gods!

Up to 250, then 450, then up to 650.

DR Big should have it's own place in a thread titled "Thumper Overkill"

Talking My 2 cents

Welter weights (<300. Pounds or cc's, your choice.)

TaTonka (>575. Pounds or cc's, your choice)

Neither here nor there.

Mega central. For those threads that reach true Mega status

Pre-mix
_________

Lightweights, race or minimalist, have a home. Big bores have a home. And for those who blur the lines, there's a place for that too. I think the best discussions would be in Neither Here Nor There, but those looking for hard core race or minimalist touring have a separate space, and the 90% road runners have a place. And the mega's get pulled out and rub shoulders. 2 smokes get their own area.

+1 Thumpers is way too big

Pretty often already now newbies accidentally post say BMW 650 single questions in BMW area as opposed to in the Thumpers.

I'd say moving out all KTM and BMW singles out of the Thumpers would create lot of room.

Edit. I just did a quick count. On page 1 of Thumpers right now there are 8 BMW threads, 8 KTM threads and 24 other thumper threads.
Based on this very limited sampling, moving BMW and KTM under their respective brand sections, that do excist already, would clear about 1/3 of the traffic out of Thumpers.

I like this Idea... Perhaps break up the remaining thumpers by CC Over 400, and 400 and under... Makes comparisons threads between models easier. IE WR250r vs DRZ400.

I would not add too many categories, too many can also add confusion. I often like seeing comparisons across a range of models... KTM in particular, is a breed apart from the mainstream Japanese brands.... What do you do with husqvarna and husaberg? Merge with KTM?

I just hope it doesn't become like ThumperTalk.

When I go over there, I only look at the section for the thumper I currently own, so I don't get much info on other bikes (which I like). Actually, right now, I have an "exotic" (Beta), so I see cool pics of Sherco's and TM's and stuff like that. When I had a Husaberg, I got bored on TT.

i like the idea of keeping an open thumpers forum then sub it out by brand for the more technical stuff.

then maybe even subs under brand for the more popular like klr650/dr650.

No?

OK, in the meantime, I started a thread down in Ask Baldy, Blame AceRph asking the reasons for the angst that I percieve some seem to have against megathreads. I asked there to keep this thread on topic, and because I was hoping for an answer, not a storm. Well, either nobody outside of Thumpers has an opinion, or the thread just passed unnoticed.
So, if you want to express yourself on the perils or virtues of megathreads, here's the link:
