Thank you fellas. Packed snow that doesnt crunch down when ya ride it is tough...but I'd do it if you think there's some purchase.

I think I know enough to make a decision, but I'll look for those pix Max. My opportunities later are iffy. I know it'll.be at the limits of comforts for multi day exposure. Today was still rough here at zero elevation.

Rough, but not bad. Just brisk....I like this. Anyway...if you find its not sheer then I'l.lean toward yes.

Thanks again for the info. I'm much obliged

Laughing since it's snowing today--still holding out hope that it could be loose and slushy by Saturday--

Any additional information?

Mabuz, Max, Snowman--very much obliged to all of you. Thanks.

And Shawn--roger dodger--wish we could ride--but the season is young

We got about 3"-4" of heavy wet snow Sunday night through Monday morning here, near the Butler area. Although temps are set to be above freezing during the day, they're still calling for flurries off and on until Thursday here.

I can try to get an update from the family up north for you.

Good news is Friday and Saturday here (Bulter-ish) are supposed to get into the mid 40s...Sunday and Monday are supposed to hit 50+, but we all know how the forecast can change from day to day.

Good stuff. The forest roads' condition is my primary concern. I'm packed and ready. Thank you very much

No worries---enough reports of miles of snow via PM that I moved it--might do it next Friday-Sunday. But--we'll see, that's on the backside of a week away at Fort Pickett--so, not really thinking that'll go over well--but sure better than being away over Easter like I WAS goin' for.

:)

Thank you.

Too bad, I just got back from a recon mission. Pics to follow. Paved roads were in better shape than I was anticipating. State forest roads not so much.

State Forest Rds.

Underwood Rd. Not good.

Strawband Beaver Rd. Not good.

Benner Run Rd. Looked promising.

Lasted about a mile, when they stopped plowing it at a logging landing.

Six Mile Run Rd. Started out great.

Still not too bad

Getting nervous

It got much worse, no pictures of that stretch, I was concentrating on getting my ass out of there.

Waiting a week is a good idea. I'll try to check on the conditions later next week.

Awesome Recon.

Super---I do a lot of these pre-rides--and this is the first time I've been able to make an informed decision because of great work like that.

Thank you Max. Thank you---I'm heading off to Pickett Sunday---and we'll see how that week goes. Good work--thank you.

Still on for this weekend? I'm going for a ride after work and can check the condition of the state forest roads.

Checked the black moshannon area after work. State forest roads are much better this week, but you will still encounter snow and ice in the shaded areas. State roads are fine, just watch for gravel in the turns. Not sure where you are staying, but camping at PA State Parks is out, they don't open until next Friday in this area. They tend to go with the opening day of trout season, and that started last weekend in the southern counties, but not until next weekend in the north.

Job hazard of mine is to have to cancel--this recon is still on---but I don't know when--sure to let you know when it is.

I ended up reconning Fort Pickett, VA though

You've earned some fame Max--not that ya need it--but you're a team player going out and checking that--a 521 mile loop, spoiled because 50-60 miles of it are snow and ice would suck--and prolong the process of proofing and releasing this route.

Thank you.

And if you have tracks from your ride--and can give me feedback on it bein' big bike friendly I'll include it in the recon notes for the route and give you credit for the ride.
