New to the area and this thread seemed active enough to get in on some rides....technically I'm not east of PHX but close enough.
The ride this weekend sounds great but I'm not sure I can dig out my gear from the sea of boxes in time...let me know if there is
a more active 'chatter' thread to lurk on.

Hi All,

I'm super new to this forum and this is my first post on the site. I also live in your area but out of town at the moment. I can't wait to get home and hook up for a ride sometime.

I've been lurking this thread for weeks already

Very nice pics Julio!

Not to be redundant, but I am re-posting the ride for this weekend. I just wanted it to be near the end here so peeps can see it. I hope all of you that were sick have become healthy. See you all Saturday.

Meet at 0800 Saturday April 6th at Cindy's Cafe http://cindysazcafe.com/
NE corner of Center and McKellips in Mesa (Set back in the strip mall)

After a bite to eat we will ride Highway 87 all the way to Winslow, AZ
In Winslow we will jump on I-40 for 6 miles and take the Leupp exit onto Highway 99 turning at Leupp road and then north on Indian route 6910.
Indian route 6910 merges with Indian Route 70 and takes us right to Grand Falls. The dirt road portion is right at 9 miles and it is completely graded. I think a GoldWing would not be a big challenge right up to the parking area. For those that are riding big bikes and street bikes I will find a spot to park and we will walk about 1/4 mile to see the falls. The higher clearance bikes will be okay but there is some deep sand and ruts in the parking/ramada area that has a potential to get nasty.

I am anticipating making stops in Payson, Long Valley, and Winslow at the least. I am old and need to pee alot. Those of you that would like to meet along the way please PM me or Bill and so we can set a meeting place. keep in mind I ride slow. I am guessing we are looking at a 5 hour+ ride there.

The ride home:
I am planning on Having dinner in Flagstaff then taking Lake Mary road home and then Highway 87 the rest of the way. Even if we only spend an hour or so at the falls I won't be home until about 9 or 10pm. You are all welcome to ride home with me but I am sure some will need to hit the Interstate and do 75mph all the way home.

For those of you that must ride 20mph over the speed limit you will be bored to tears riding with us. For those of you that like to go for a nice ride and look at the scenery you will have a good day.

Thanks for an awesome day guys! I can honestly say that the rubber tubing under my seat really helped. Mind you 450 miles in a day on a KLR is still an ass buster but just not as bad as with the extra vibration.
Here is a link to the pics i took today: http://s1176.photobucket.com/user/ra...%202013?page=1

No worries man, That would have been a very long ride for anyone not feeling well. Take care and we will see you on the next one.

Ride Sat 4/13

Hey everyone.

I am going to go out riding the Cottonwood Canyon Road heading to the Ajax Mine on Sat 4/13 This will be kind of a exploration as I have not gone in from the West before. I have been from the Superior side once.

If anyone is interested we can meet at the Queen Creek Cafe at 8:00 or at the staging area off Highway 79 at around 9:45 I do need to be home by 4:00 so I can either break off from the group or we can all call it a day.

I am not looking for anything too difficult so by my standards it should be pretty easy but I would not call this a big bike friendly ride. Anything bigger than a 650 would probably be a challenge.

If anyone who has experience with this area please chime in with recommendations or any input on difficult spots.

Thanks
Bill

I think were it starts getting a little sketchy is east of Ajax into Telegraph Canyon Rd. As long as you stay west of that area it should be a nice mellow ride.
