Cuy, a delicacy in Ecuador. Yes, I ate one. No, I won't eat another one.

Don't miss out on riding this place. The following are photos of one of the most beautiful places on the planet...Canoa Beach, Ecuador.

I met Albert, owner of the Tutleshead Pub in January of last year. a truly good mate.

Fully stocked bar, and a hub for meeting fellow riders from around the world.

The Turtleshead Pub's finest.

Albert, the owner.

Hey Albert....buy a muffler for that bike...

Bump.

Anymore info out there? I'm sure others have been there since 2007 and have something to add/update.

Flying down and renting bikes for a 2 week self-guided tour. Anymore 'must do's'?

Places to go/see?

Places to avoid?

Is the Turtle's Head still open? Sounds like the OP may be in Columbia now...

No, Albert's in Colombia with a new bar and his minerals exploration business.

In Ecuador I would make a trip out to Mindo on my way to the coast and then I would head North to Colombia

Thanks. I'll add Mindo to the list of places to check out.

As for Colombia, not sure how that'll work out on a rental bike. May have to save it for another trip and concentrate on Ecuador this time around.

Yeah there is a reason Albert left Ecuador for Colombia, just ask him how he likes his new home.

Rentals Tires Routes and Tours in Ecuador

Thanks for starting this thread. I vote for keeping it just about Ecuador.

Anyone looking for advice or good routes, there is plenty we can offer -either in person at our shop (Juan Leon Mera between Carrion & Veintimilla - Quito) or on our web site. There's lots of info on there.

We can also help you find a set of tires such as Continental TKC80 or ContiEscape which we use on our bikes. Let us know in advance and we can order some for you and have them here as you pass through Quito.

Not sure I want to know why Albert left Ecuador...headed there in two weeks and don't want any negative Karma.

Now wasn't there another adv guy living there and running a restaurant, but not in Quito? Can't seem to remember where he was...

Visited Quito & Puerto Lopez. Great riding to be had in Ecuador- very diverse geographically.

Check out Otavalo , arts/crafts market, and side attractions nearby of Lago San Pablo, Peguche Falls and a Condor Park. Lots of Rosé farms in the area also.

Thinking of living on the coasts, it's 70-80 year round, and the Routa del Sol, along the coast is pretty scenic.

What's the deal with motorcycle prices in Ecuador? $11-15k for a Vstroms 650 or XT660T is whack compared to US.

Plenty of sub 250cc Chinese bikes for under $2k tho.

yeah he is in Quito with a great steak place, gpothoven's place This should be the correct waypoint or very near: S0 12.086 W78 28.820

Highly recommended He's a great guy with a damn good steak 'wich.

Seems fitting to have a small discussion about Colombia since the OP is now happily living in Colombia, just saying. Not that Ecuador is bad or anything just not as much fun as it's big neighbor to the North imho

Thanks Throttlemeister for the info. We'll surely stop by there. Columbia is on the short list.

For those planning on sending their bikes from the U.S. there are good and cheap ocean options to/from Guayaquil serving ports of Miami, Houston. L.A. in about 9 days transit.
