Ostensibly KTM - no?

And a way of getting Faria a lead ride - but there again why not Faria on a Husky then, unless there was a key deal struck to promote the brand - it would make sense?

There are some interesting rumblings. Apparently the HRC representation in Abu Dhabi is very light on Japanese personnel and in fact, Helders bike came from Portugal after his own support included some "personal improvements".

Makes me wonder if HRC is abandoning this version and moving development solely to the new bike due later in the year. Another interesting rumor is that HRC is dragging their feet in procuring the services of Cyril. Word is that Cyril wants to go to Honda, but HRC is deathly afraid that if they don't immediately win, the perception can only be that the bike is at fault.

Seems odd that a team would not want to best rider for fear it would highlight other deficiencies, but that is what rumors are all about anyway.

If true, it would display an astonishing lack of confidence on the part of HRC.

The most I have heard in regards to a Husqvarna team is the slim possibility of a "B" level team as a feeder to KTM, however it is important to keep in mind that a bike would essentially need to be developed from scratch is a Husky is used as a platform. Keep in mind that the TE449RR was essentially the BMW G450X that was rebadged as a Husky using a husky motor. Speedbrain owns all the rights to that version as a rally bike which is why they are moving to homologate it as the first model from Speedbrain as a manufacturer.

Perhaps an easier and more logical move would be for KTM to rebadge the current KTM 450RR as a husky after they release the new version at the end of the year. That would give them a dated and heavy, albeit proven and reliable platform to develop future talent. Either way, I don't see Cyril going to Husky. As I hear it, his presence is not very welcome among the KTM or KTM related camps these days.

Cyril is still with Red Bull. Red Bull working with Husky? Seems unlikely. Still think he's trading two wheels for four. He's had a couple of medium-severity crashes as of late and has a new baby girl at home. Maybe Mrs Despres has motivated him to switch to slightly safer 4 wheeling.

Helder has always to my knowledge raced with a low profile and very small crew. Their previous efforts with great results were done from a van and a quickshade. He may not like the big team concept and may have got his way on this one?

Good luck to him!
Cheers

HRC Dakar Debrief

Interesting insight into their PR message. I seem to recall JC having to wait for spare parts from a Hummer to continue his race so the statement "...all three riders got minor problems but didn't stop their machine," (2:45) seems misleading.

Not so sure, the way I read it, knowing it's a Japanese to English translation is that "didn't stop their machine" is meant to say that none of the bike problems cause someone to retire from the rally completely.

Helder confirmed to Chavo that HRC has pretty much moved nearly all resources to the development of the new bike. They sent his 2013 bike to Portugal and pretty much told him he can do whatever he wants to it.

Helders current bike or the new HRC bike? Helder has some pics up via facebook but I don't think we'll see the new bike for some time yet.

It's true that Speedbrain owns all the rights but both Husqvarna and BMW rally bikes are very different from G450X enduro bike. G450X ran PDS, Husqvarna and rally bikes rally are using linkage in suspension.
Actually BMW/Speedbrain used a small and virtually unknown subcontractor to fix issues with G450X frame for Juha Salminen few years ago (everybody remembers how Knighter left BMW with a bang). For that purpose they manufactured 5-10 different frames which by the end of the season brought Salminen some victories in EWC already. The very same subcontractor manufactured frames for last year's Dakar bikes. It's true that design of these rally frames is based on 'Salminen' G450X frame but incorporates linkage and support for huge rear subframe-mounted tank. This year's Dakar bikes used evolution of these frames manufactured by Speedbrain itself.
So in fact Speedbrain frames have practically nothing to do with standard G450X frames. Different geometry entirely.
By the way - that small subcontractor devised and manufactures a device which became pretty popular among Advrider users recently. So for us here it is not so unknown anymore but owner of that little workshop still prefers to fly below the radar visibility range - so don't ask me :)

HRC are telling me there will be an announcement about the 2013 team some time after Abu Dhabi.
