Standing out are Smith and Dovi. I worry that the Ducs can't keep a race pace that close to the front but nonetheless, they aren't a million miles away from the front. Tomorrow should be interesting.

Dovi has had many opportunities to observe and decode Stoner's techniques, plus Dovi is a strong rider in his own right.
He's keen to dice it with Crutchlow and both Hondas.
Most people don't consider him to be one of the aliens, but don't tell him that. In fact, the aliens are a relic of the past, as there won't be any big gaps between the front and the rest.

Oh, tow-ropes are banned now?

The Ducati won't have any race distance pace I'm afraid, I hope I'm wrong

Never thought of that. Poor guy probably had to have counseling when he found out about the new format.

Only seven tenths separating the top ten??
Moto2 QP was on fire. Espargaro on pole binned it hard early and got dropped to 14th. He came back and spooled it up to seventh, then fourth then on the last minute of the sesssion, blasted it to the top of the chart on a rebuilt bike. He used a tow or two in some sections of the hottest laps, but he was on a mission. Nakagami was clearly smooth enough to hold the pole if Espargaro didn't get it back together. Love the sliding the Moto2 bikes throw down, corner after corner of backing it in and blasting it out.

ETA like I cant type this morn

Spies fall down.

My faith wanes. All the hopes for the guy, but I think the writing's on the wall. I hope I'm wrong.

Ouch, Ben Spies is going to have a very sore left shoulder for qualifying, that was a heavy fall.

Well who'd have thought it: Dovizioso, working hard on his retirement plan with Ducati, qualifies half a second ahead of Rossi, who has just stepped off that Ducati and taken (we guess) a big pay cut for a ride on the love of his life, the M1.

Of course, there are no points for qualifying and the Duc will eat its rear tyre. Valentino still has a chance for the race, but he is a full second (give or take a few thousandths) behind pole-man Lorenzo, which is roughly where he was last year on the Duc. Gulp.

Meanwhile, Marquez gets in the way of Pedrosa. And Crutchlow takes another step up.

Lots to look forward to. But Rossi fans (and I'm one) will be getting that sinking feeling they've got used to at last.

My only real surprises are Rossi and Nicky being further from the front than I thought they would be.

Absolutely not what I expected from Rossi. What a kick in the gut, to be outqualified by Dovi on the bike he abandoned for the better Yamaha.

I expected to see Marquez further up, but that is not as surprising.

Don't worry about it, it's only qualifying. The duc will do what it always does. I am more concerned that if Jorge gets away, we are destined to another procession

I'm also a little bummed about Rossi's performance. Can't wait to hear what went wrong there.

Did you guys notice how they only showed Rossi ONCE during qualifying, when he was crossing checkers. This is quite unusual, cameras were always on Vale even when he was in the back.

MM touching with Pedrosa is just a preview of things to come. The kid is blindingly fast but doesn't know how to pace himself yet.

I really hope Spies did not hurt his shoulder in that nasty fall. At this moment he looks like a guy who lost passion for motorcycle racing.

And Dovi
