NIU Basic Rider Course walkin openings - 4/5 - 4/7

There are 15+ walkin spots available in next weekends Basic Rider Course, being held at Great Lakes Veterans Hospital, which is just east of Buckley (137) and 41, near the Full Moon.

These are usually pretty hard to get into this early in the season, but there are atleast 12-15 spots open, with the capacity to run with 24 people. Of course the minimum to run is 6.

It is a FREE course to everyone that has an IL mailing address, or if you're active military.

Schedule: April 5 - April 7

Friday - 6pm - 10pm
Saturday & Sunday - Option 1: 10am - 7pm / Option 2: 7am - 4pm

Need to be at least 16 years old to enroll, and its the Basic Course so mainly directed towards newer riders or people that have no experience and want to see what riding is like, but can also act as a refresher or insurance discount if you wanted.

You would be using NIU's bikes for the course.

Post here or shoot me a PM if interested.

For this particular course, go to their home page, www.niu.edu/mcycle, go to locations, and find the detailed directions to Building 48 at Great Lakes Veterans Hospital.

Be there at 5:40-5:45 and sign up as a walk-in, which usually take the spots of pre-registered students that don't show up. This particular course though has quite a few spots open so the chances of getting in are very likely.

Tough to pre-register for these courses early, so I figured I'd pass on the info to anyone trying to take the course early in the season.

Just let whoever know to make sure to get there on time, and have their drivers license with them, and all else will be explained there.

There are still spots open in this course, if anyone was interested. Make sure you're there to sign up by 5:45pm, in Building 48 which is right across from VA police.

Location/directions:

Great Lakes Veteran's Administration Hospital
3001 Green Bay Road
North Chicago, IL
http://niu.edu/mcycle/locations/index.shtml

To access the training GLVA training site, you will have to enter the facility from Buckley Road (Rt 137) at Lewis Ave. Lewis is one block east of Green Bay Road. Turn onto Lewis from Buckley, and then turn left after the empty guard house, and follow road around to parking lot directly across from the stop sign. Enter parking lot, Building 48 will be at the north end of the lot. Enter Building 48 from the east end, and the classroom will be down the first floor hallway on the right. There is usually a blue school bus and a line of cones near Building 48, which is directly across from the VA police office.

ERC is now BRC2, with some changes (no classroom, different exercises, etc)

ARC is the new course this year, very similar to the military sportbike course from years past

Frm what I know, the new construction they're doing doesn't allow the required room for the range in the parking lots

That may change a few years from now, but for now, unfortunately no COD

Same location, GLVA, will have open walkins spots next weekend as well.

Other sites like College of Lake County, etc are worth a try too, quite a few walkins have been getting in.

Take a look at their home page for directions, requirements, etc

There are open walk-in spots, too late to pre-register.

You can have him check the website if he wants to pre-register, but he might have to wait a while.

To get in early his best chance is to go there as a walkin, 5:45pm Friday whichever location.
