Hey Al,

Tio Juanito here. Two more Sherpas showed up here this evening. It's Saturday night bro! We're going out for pizza. It's on me if you get down here to the Shamrock. That is, if you're in Medellin this evening.

Hope to see you guys again.

Saludos,
Tio Juanito

Damn, would have loved to come hang out but we went to a soccer match. Soccer sucks. I would have much rather hung out and shot the shit. I'll be around for a few more days so I will come down soon and find you. Thanks for the invite

days seventy three through eighty seven, 3-28-13 to 4-11

I don't know what to say it's been a while since my last RR. I feel like that is what people say when they enter a confessional booth at a catholic church but really that is what I should be doing. I have been in Medellin Colombia for the last two weeks so.... My friend robert showed up from Oregon, we rented an apartment and I have basically been partying. We did meet back up with Joe, Aileen, and Lea from the boat trip and Marnix and Lison stopped by along with a few other people along the way.

here is what I've done:

Party a lot:

Went to a brewery and partied:

met up with jdowns a few times while partying:

Rode out to Guatepe:

Went to a soccer game:

And took some photos around town:

Then today we finally got the fuck out with our lives still questionably in tact. Rode to Buga where we found a nice hostel

Not to try and put a downer on you but you must be nearing the half way point of your trip.
You better pick up the pace and party harder

days eighty eight through ninety one, 4-12-13 to 4-15-13

woke up in our hostel in buga and had our sights set on Ipiales on the border. an ambitious ride but very doable. the ride was amazing. winding through the Andes past deep gorges and beautiful scenery.

When we finially arrived in Ipiales we found a hotel called the gran hotel for 30 bucks and set out to find food. we found a place around the block that had giant plate of chicken rice, the best beans I have ever had, soup, salad, and juice all for 3 dollars. went back to the hotel and there was a note under our door from a lady that lived downstairs and taught english. the note said they never get people from the US in town and asked if we could stop in to her class in the morning. we met up with her and agreed on 8:30 and met her the next morning.

After about an hour of fielding questions from the students we went back to the hotel, packed our shit and set out toward a church I found on the internet a few miles away. it was fucking awesome.

they had llamas

After a little hike down to the check out the churck we set off toward the border of Ecuador and our further goal of Octavalo where marnix and lison had told us a place to camp. the ride was once again breathtaking.

more to come on this unfinished post, the internet is complete shit here!

Hey Alex, sometimes I get a bit tired of the way people use the word "Awesome" to describe every little thing that happens...but that church...if that doesn't deserve that word, nothing does. That picture of the side is one helluva shot. Did you guys get to go inside? Thanks for taking the time to take those pictures.

we both have a head set and usually for some reason "awesome" is the word that is the last before the headset is turned off. kind of like "over and out". we click it and say "hey did you see that shit"... and the other says "awesome"... we use it too much but it has become part of our lingo for the trip. but yes that church was, at the most literal term, awesome! thanks for chiming in!

continued....

finally found some internet so I will finish the last post.

ok, so we rode to Otavalla and to our surprise Marnix and Lison were still there waiting for us!

So we set up our tent and headed into town to find some whiskey

then we drank it all

the next day we rode with marnix and lison to banos, a little town with some waterfalls and hotsprings and markets and stuff. we got pretty lost in Quito as no one had a working GPS and the road through Quito is a little difficult to follow. we were originally planning to go to some crater lake that Marnix knew of, but changed plans after getting lost. We stayed in banos for two nights as it was a farewell to the dutch. we would most likely not cross paths again. a very sad day but worth a celebration!
