You guessed it. The ceiling is caving in.

I see you use the present tense, I am sure with good reason.

This reminds me of a ride I took a while back. I was riding a Forest Service road when I came across a large boulder.

I thought it was worth a pic, so I got off and took a break. I walked around it for a while, took a couple of pics, then went on my way.

I soon was turned back by snow, and on my way back I found a second boulder, one that had not been there on the first pass.

I didn't linger to take pics this time.

Nice report! Glad a rail riding hobo or something worse didn't jump out of that old container and attack you. Looks like some fun exploring!

Great thread with great pictures. I love exploring old rail lines and tunnels. There are alot of them in W.V. that have been converted to bike/hike trails. Keep up the good work. Thanks for posting.

Visited a bit of that area a couple years ago. ate lunch in Vernonia. was wishing I had the time and a bicycle to ride that rails to trails route that crosses the road several times. love old RR right of ways. really enjoyed your report. hope you keep it going. JB

This is been a fun adventure. When this all started out I was only looking for one tunnel. But it seems to have turned into a theme. I don't know how much longer I'll continue with it, but there are 5 more tunnels on this one rail line. It's my understanding that this line has been taken over by the state and it will be converted over to a "rails to trails". And at that point you will be able to hike from Banks Oregon all the way out to the coast.
Once again I hope everybody's enjoying these little adventures, because I'm having a blast.

Very nice!

Old RR tunnels, caves, old cemeteries, old water-powered mills, fun stuff!

Nice pics too!

What is the plan for next weekend? I am fine with recreating your rides after the fact but if you have want an idiot or three to come along next time I am game.

Love the rides so far. I am new to Oregon and *this* is what I came for.
