This is from the pre-2007 950se portion of the shop manual I have on CD. There's a different one if you have a post '07.

The red wire should be connected from the start button to the ignition switch down to the light system relay (not shown in this picture). I can post up the entire diagram if you need it. Good luck, and sorry about all the troubles on the road.

This is the full post '07 diagram

Thanks for that, checked our wiring diagram too, did a manual check of plugging in and pulling out and everything points to that.

Have cut and reconnected the wire ,about to take it for a test ride before putting house and contents back on board.

Back in an hour or so.

Heya guys

Well after one hour and 50 km she is running right again so it was that red wire broken off from being tangled in a birds nest with previous owner BS wiring so yet again mopping up the mess.

When we do our big service etc I will remove the mask and tie things up properly.

Thanks to all who helped, now we will be back on the road again tomorrow.

Cheers and thanks Andi & Ellen

So no reason to sell a bike if it's troublesome, dive into it instead!
After u bought a machine, used or new, tear the thing down to inspect it! You can avoid sutch issues and most important, all the stress and worries about the financial things.

And don't thrust mech's, ever! Unless u know them very well.

We have dived in as much as we can given the "shed" we have on the road.

Never pulled the entire headlight mask apart (why if it hasn't failed) and the broken wire was on the front where I could not see it yesterday.

Seems to be no matter what we do there is always something else lining up to try and stop us, we have a heap of parts arriving in Guatemala to fix the previous issues so we are hoping this bust its nuts as far as big fails go.

Many of the problems documented were unfortunately due to the previous owner. I've bought numerous bikes from stand-up folks but even the most meticulous missed an item here or there. I used to do fly and rides but now I'm more hesitant with what I have seen even on the bikes that I know the PO thought were near perfect. I also know ones I've sold had issues I wasn't aware of. All that said with your unique situation all you can do is soldier on!

Yes and we intend too but sometimes I think WTF.

Just with all the previous crap as well it has giving me a beating mechanically and us financially .... that is life.
