I have a 2002 SV650N California Model with about 22k miles. Pretty much 100% stock.

My problem is that the bike always smells of gas. It smells a lot more right after riding (even 5 miles), and the smell diminishes over time.

Any ideas?

I have an '00 non-Calif. model that used to smell like gas after rides. I replaced the float valves in both carbs and the smell has been pretty much been eliminated. I can't comment if there's anything particular to the CA model that would exacerbate the smell.

The OEM float valves are expensive. K&L Supply sells a carb rebuild kit (you'll need two) for < $20 with valves, gaskets and o-rings. I got mine at the oldbikebarn.com.

No. I thought about it, but it would have to either be the Trans Taiga or the rally. I've really been looking forward to doing the TT and I've already been to Deals Gap, so the choice was easy.

Wow, what a road that is. Your an adventurous one for sure. When are you going?

I've just ordered a Givi top rack from twisted throttle.

I'll be leaving sometime in early June or if that timeframe doesn't work, it will be late August.

I have an SW-Motech rack. It's fairly flimsy compared to the Givi Rack, but it gets the job done. I thought they had quit making the Givi racks for the SV. Maybe it was only the side racks they discontinued?

I finally got my SV back on the road today. It sat in a corner of the garage for 5 or 6 years. After building a new wiring harness and going through the carbs 4 times it's running great.

Earlier today.

It looks like I don't have any normal pictures of my bike, but it's an '07. And here's a dusty scan from a ride.
