Hope it works out for you.

It worked out pretty well, 900+ miles round trip, made it there and back again safe and sound.

It'll run 65-75 all day long, the engine in mine is pretty much stock so it tops out around 80, I think I've seen 83 on the speedometer going down hill with a tailwind coming back from Elkin. 6th gear is pretty much an overdrive. Bigger, longer hills may need a downshift depending on how much gear and extra ass is being hauled around.

Compared to most cruisers it is a fairly light bike. Wind from other vehicles, especially trucks, is an issue on the highway. I've made the trip back and forth to High Point several times now and didn't have a problem. That said, I don't know if I'd take 40 all the way to Greensboro on it in the afternoon with traffic.

I've got an Dobeck EJK on order, we'll see how it pushes through the wind in 6th gear when the FI mapping is set for performance as opposed to economy.

I see you had no issues hauling the bike around with the hitch carrier. I've got a Dodge 4x4 Dually and getting the KLX in and out of the bed is not a pleasant experience. Does everything seem solid while going down the road.

The bike itself didn't move around much at all. I had four straps holding it down, the two back straps were hooked to the receiver. That being said, the CRF250L is a 300lbs bike, a pig for a 250, but fairly light compared to some of the bigger bikes so your mileage may vary. I do plan on welding angle iron to the bottom of the platform to lock it in place. Right now it is two pieces bolted in the middle with four bolts on either side.

As an aside, I have an unopened receiver mount hauler that I ordered from Harbor Freight.

It didn't make it in time for my trip up to PA so I bought the one from Northern Tool to get me through the trip. If anyone is interested I'd be willing to sell it, otherwise I'll be taking it back to the local store tomorrow to get a return.

I intend on getting out Saturday and Sunday, don't have any specific destination in mind.

Linville sounds fun, probably won't be able to get on the road till 10:00 or so. Will most likely take 67 out of Winston to 268 in Elkin.

I lived in Winston Salem for about 9 months 10 years ago. Great little roads around it.

And you are only about an hour from the Blue Ridge parkway.
