For Sito and anyone else not caught up yet, I wrecked a few miles out of Darwin while doing the Cerro Gordon loop. As soon as I hit the ground I knew I had broken bones in my leg. I have this wacky superstition about riding sweep because I was convinced I always got hurt when doing so. Guess where I was on Friday!

Big, big thanks to everyone who stuck by me while we figured out a game plan, and not allowing me to use Plan B. riding back to Panamint would have sucked.

The final count is 3 broken toes, 4 broken/ dislocated metatarsals, and what is called a " tibeal plateau fracture" that will need to be reassembled with hardware. I'm stuck in mission hospital in south OC til at least next Friday, so if anyone is close by and has time to burn, please stop by. I don't need to tell anyone how depressing hospitals are --- I could really use the company! I'll see you guys out on the trails in a couple of months.
Tibial plateau fractures are no good. I had a double spiral of the TP a few years back. I walked on it with a cane for three days around the UCLA campus before going to the hospital. Herrhelmet was with me on that and saw my knee bigger than a basketball the following morning. Doc told me that at any time my femur could've crushed down thru the fractures and I would've been wheel chair bound for life. . Take care of that thing and give it lots of time to heal correctly.

Question oc mechanic?

somewhat off topic but I figured there are a lot of riders from OC on this thread. Looking for a bmw mechanic around OC(Newport/Costa Mesa)
I know Lior's Moto Ride is in Corona but hoping to find someone closer.
(apart from Irv Seaver or Long Beach)

Busted my bike up at the DV Noobs rally and need some work done.

no, thankfully!

I took a spill just 2 miles from PSR. Not sure if it's my forks or bars but they aren't lined up anymore :-/

The bars are rubber mounted. Straighten them out. Double check the bolts underneath, as I have a few fun stories about breaking handlebar riser bolts.

Got out for a short ride with Sito yesterday.

Gloomy throughout the IE, but patches of blue as we climbed 1N12 from Hwy38.

Above the clouds near Thomas Hunting Grounds. (Saddleback in the far distance.)

Past Angelus Oaks and down Middle Control / Mill Creek.

Headwaters of the Santa Ana River.

Original plan was to head for Pioneer Town, but we never made it.

A local rider told us that the restaurant / bar at Seven Oaks was open. Had to stop and check it out.

Never knew this place was here. Turned out to be a pretty cool spot with really good burgers

Dinner stop for future BB night ride?

Continuing on up 2N06 towards Big Bear.

We overcame a couple obstacles.

Some small patches of snow at ~8k ft.

Made our way out to Holcomb Valley via Van Dusen. Just west of the campground we saw a string a kids with a strange assortment of homemade wagons and carts. It was some sort of youth group on a 'pioneer experience' adventure. I guess they had to build a way to carry all of their stuff, then transport it from town out to the camp ares.

This last group had a crate mounted to a couple of carpet dollies. They were not having fun

Pit stop on 3N08. The burn area is starting to get some green back

I split up with Sito at 3N14. He was gonna bounce out to the hwy and over to Arrowhead to check out the homestead, while I planned to follow the jeep trails and such down to Silverwood.

The big creek crossing on 3N93 was almost totally dry

Several rock gardens provided some Enduro-Cross practice.

This one was a bit sloppy and slippery.

Gatekeeper section just before 3N16.

I zipped up to Crab Flats, then down 3N34 (Dishpan) to Deep Creek.

A troop of RZR's were working their way down the rocks.

Followed 3N34 around to Pinnacles, then 2N33 and 2N37 down to Miller Cyn.

Along the way there were a couple of deep creek crossings that will likely dry up in the next few weeks.

Finished off with a few 'secret' roads behind Silverwood, then Cleghorn and Lytle Creek on the way home.

dan, sorry to hear about your crash.

it takes a lot to bend or twist a fork. good chance you're handlbar is tweaked or like tim said, it probably got twisted at the mount. that happens on my 640 all the time. see if you could straighten up by jamming your front tire on the curb and turn the handlebar. good luck.

This is a fun route not a boring flat fire road. Its a long hill climb all the way into BB. From BB
I take the normal route into Pioneer Town. Depending on what time we start and get to PT Town
Will determine what route we take back.

I will be leaving Casa Sito at 8:am (Glendora) If anyone wants to meet me there PM me and I will send you my address.
I will be stopping at Starbucks Coffee 27615 Baseline St, Highland, CA 92346 to gas up and wait for anyone that wants to join me. (9:00 -9:30)
If anyone is riding small bike there are a few places to park a truck before we get to the trail head.

This ride is open to anyone, it will be a long day and a Noob may find this ride challenging. Im in no hurry and have all day to play. Its been a long time for me off the bike so Im going to be rusty.
Dang read this a little late. I love riding in the big bear area. What day is this on.
