BaseCamp v4.2 (beta)

There is (was) a Win-BC v4.2.0.1beta posted but since removed due to beta-issues. But, at least we can discuss the "potential" of what look like some interesting new features.

The rough list of changes:
  • Added Trip Planner (work-in-progress)
-adds easy way to create trips
    -create trips over several days
    -round trip support
    -printing trips
    -add destinations along the route
-flying support (airport and flight look-up)
    -time zone support
  • Added support for different route profiles for different legs of a route
  • Added support to have different folders and lists with the same name (as long as they have a different parent in the folder hierarchy)
  • Added support for UK postal code search
  • Added support for Yelp search (work-in-progress)
  • Added support for named search (far away POIs should be found if it's an exact name match)
  • Added support for category search (you can type "Hotels, Las Vegas, NV")
  • Added quick search (hover over the map to invoke it)
  • Added Irish Transverse Mercator grid
  • Added support for displaying BirdsEye while in Basestation mode
  • Added support for displaying and saving the track of the Basestation itself
  • Added support for displaying the most recent update time for Basestation contacts
  • Fixed issue with Garmap Southern Africa Topo & Rec 2012.3 - NT not being displayed BaseCamp

Aside from the Trip Planner, which should be interesting to watch "evolve", the item I highlighted is a real plus for the 'off-roaders' among us. This means that Garmin is finally acknowledging official support for "mixed-routes": i.e, Along-road and Direct Routing mixed within a single route. Mac-BC has allowed this for a while now but hopefully they will clean up the workflow to accomplish mixed-routes.

Of course, how the GPS unit's handle mixed-routes will be the real test (my Montana does just fine as long as I don't allow it to recalculated the route).

Cheers,

I am just about ready to jump in the BC pool after many years with Mapsource. Seems like some serious improvements recently.

I whined a lot about MS at first but it is powerful. Now I figure I just need to ....just do it with BC.

I hope it's still OK to "whine" now and then since I do it quite often.

There are still a number of things that could be worked on in my opinion - like not having two different applications [between Windows and Mac OS].

Non the less, I'm still looking forward to v4.2

Cheers,

Although I use the Windows version, I would certainly welcome improvements and new features.
