I get a feed and commentary from the BBC and did not hear see that. Just curious as to what you were watching.

Yep, those where the "good old days" where if you weren't on the front row, you had virtually no chance of winning, and there might be one or two passes for position in the entire race. Enthralling.

It was from the China practice on NBC

Starting 9th is a recipe for disaster. When the lead cars bunch up for the first turn, the tail end of the field arrives, flying out of control, banging into each other. It happens on every start. What were they thinking?

Vettel will probably get around Grosjean before the first turn, only to have Grosjean go airborne and land on him......

Not to mention Perez and Sutil arriving while dicing.

I think Red Bull's qualifying strategy is perfect for Red Bull.

It was apparent that Red Bull wasn't fast enough to win pole. But the only way their can can win is to get the lead and keep it. So their tire strategy is intended to give Vettel the lead.

I believe every single car front of Vettel is on the softer compound. He's on the harder compound. Therefore, unless he gets into an accident, he is assured of assuming the lead within the first ten or fifteen laps, when all the yellow tires pit.

From there, it's classic Red Bull. Lay down fast laps and hope to overcome your initial deficit by the time you make your own first pit stop.

Could be a winning strategy.

The tire strategy the FIA has demanded of Pirelli isn't eco friendly. It's the opposite. They go through more tires in a race, not fewer. Not sure what you mean.

The unintended consequence is that qualifying suffers. The top cars ran very few laps. In two of the three segments they only came onto track for one time lap. If that continues, the FIA may make some changes.

I quite like what they did. Instead of just showing the practice, they did some actual production work. Playing back all those driver quotes and more or less matching them with when the driver was talking, was excellent. Vettel did sound like a pissy little girl. No surprise there.

My mistake. Button is also on the whites. If he stays ahead of Vettel it will wreck Red Bull's strategy.

Exactly, I don't believe Button has the outright pace that Vettel has, but he is superb at managing his tires, so the lead may come to him.

I honestly thought Mercedes were going to employ the same tire strategy, but I think they sensed an impending pole and wanted to notch that one up.

I'll put my money on Webber as the dark horse...anger and frustration can be great motivators.

I just watched qualifying. I think it was the new hairdo that sent Webber to the back of the grid.
