So, just to be clear.....

I'm just about to purchase a new unit, probably the Montana base model.

Gotta couple basic questions.

First off, I am correct that if I purchase maps from Garmin, any that come on an SD card can't be added to my computer? Only maps that come on a DVD will do that? Right?

Second, this will be my first unit to have the capability of doing Tracks. When I'm following a track on the unit, does it display things like distances to the next turn, total distance to go, time to destination, etc.? I'm really used to Routes doing that.

For the moment, I'm out of questions.

Thanks!

But you can simply place the SD Card in a card reader and BaseCamp on your computer will see the maps. In this way you don't have to have the GPS connected all of the time. But, if you do want the maps "installed" on your computer (which I think is preferable) then purchase the DVD.

Yes, if you are actually navigating a Track and using the Trip Computer app or using Datafields as a Dashboard on the the Map. Navigating a Track is different than just showing the Track on the Map.

For the moment, I'm out of questions.

Thanks!
See my answers inline above. If you have further Montana questions you might post them in the BIG Montana thread - where we all hang out.
