Keep us posted. BTW, your pictures don't show up for me.

I've got a '82 CM400 I need to bring back to life sometime. It's a very low miles bike I found some years ago and rode for a while, but it became very hard to start and I think it's carburetion. Where did you find your rebuild kit?

Made some edits on pictures, try it now. Tim, I picked up my "rebuild kit" from http://www.speedandsport.com/ It only consisted of the main bowl gasket, a couple of o-rings, and the banjo bolt (fuel inlet) gasket. I could use a new needle and I was able to save the original bowl gasket and could have gotten it to work ok without the kit, but glad to get at least the new orings installed. Found this online for a CM400. Had LTD 454 once very similar to the CM. I used a heavy degreaser for most of the carb (and tank) and used acetone on the brass jets. The varnish was VERY thick.

Got it runnning pretty well. Potent beastie, but now I need to dissasemble some more and start rebuilding the forks, steering head bearings, and brakes next. Also need to pressure test the crankcase and see if I need new cylinder gasket or crank seals. A real challange to ride aggressivly given the right shift.

There are places,maybe in Spain that do new fiberglass side panels for those things and other bits and pieces,pretty rare old Bultaco what with the center port cylinder and right side kicker. Double downtube frame,they were a direction Bultaco headed and then went another way.

Engine parts are real hard to come by,I parted a couple and they went like hotcakes mostly back to Spain.

Remarkably, every bit of fiberglass is sound with no cracks or any other problems. I was surprised the tank cleaned up so well. Last ran pre-ethonal and I will keep it that way. So far, the engine seems to be sound in all regards. I don't know yet if the crank seals are good. If I do have to strip it down to change the seals, I will have to pick up or build some tools and will pull the cylinder and check the piston/rings/bore, but no obvious problems there yet. Not sure if the crank seals are hard to find. I understand the fork seals are pretty common. Did find an official (copy) El Bandidto Bultaco engine manual (not included in the Clymer's pre-'74 book.)

Its actually in such good shape, I have to consider keeping the paint, etc. as is with its "as used" patina rather than attempt my version of a complete restore. I am starting the polishing process on the cases, rims, centers. I tend to restore for use rather than show and the problem with this bike is it is not real conducive to riding unless you are into vintage MX. Its a handfull with outdated suspension and the shift/brake situation. Of course, part of its alure is its period reputation as being more than most could handle.

So far it has been fun to work on.

If'n it was me and I had that bike, I would do a full restore on it and park it indoors. I love pelican fender Bultaco's. The rest of em.............not so much.

The 1976 Montesa 250 Enduro I just found is a nice runner,stock paint still,engine rebuilt,powder coated frame,SS spokes,new square Amal carb,seat redone,etc.
It starts and is ready to go racing as found.
You never know what might turn up on craigslist for 500.00.

I picked up an Ebay Clymers for pre '74, but it doesn't have anything on the Bandido. I also picked up a service book on the Montadera/Bandido engines from speedandsport.com which is ok (pictures are kinda dark), but doesn't have the parts break down of your copy.
