This is the headwaters for the Rio Santa. I followed this river from the ocean up thru Pato canyon to this point at 13,500 feet.
The ride following this river is one of the best in the world
Mark my word on that

Heading down from the mountains toward Lima was an incredible journey.
I was at 13,500 feet and raining at the top. At the bottom is the Pacific Ocean and one the driest places on this planet. These is nothing growing here in the hills close to the ocean

Lima

Lima Peru
Population 7 million
Now it feels like I am a long way from home.
But it also reminds me a lot of home.
There are Burger Kings and Starbucks on what it seems to be every corner.
There are big buildings, lots of traffic and people going about their lives.
I rode in to this city, making my way thru all the traffic to a cool little section called Miraflores. It is a touristy place. Lots of Gringos around here.
Traffic was horrible on a Friday afternoon.......but that was to be expected.
I was crawling along, inching my way thru the traffic. I was using the sidewalk to pass all the taxis and try to make some headway to my destination. I wasn't sure which road to take and which was best. I was just using my GPS as a compus. I jumped on to a highway looking road and off the busy city streets. As I did, a guy in a truck waived his finger at me telling me not to get on this road. Did he know where I was going? Of course not.
About 30 seconds later, I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop.
It turns out that motorcycles are not allowed on this road. I didn't see any signs saying that. I guess I was just supposed to know.
The cop wanted to give me a ticket at first but I complained that there were no signs. He didn't care. He asked me where I was from and I told him. And I told him that I traveled all that way on my motorcycle and his ears perked up. After that, he was nice and let me go.
But it was back on the city streets and all that bumper to bumper traffic.
A few more sidewalk passes and I made it to Miraflores.
I had trouble finding a hotel with parking for my motorcycle and availability for the weekend.
I searched for about 3 hours and found a place. And that is where I am now. I have been here for a few days......longer than I expected...........

I met this girl at a trendy bar in Miraflores.
We chatted a bit.
Laughed
and sat close and shared some stories
She spoke good English which was nice.
Here name is Cathe (Cathy)
She is a flight attendant with Lan.
She has traveled around the world and probably has been to more countries than I have (so far)
She has a graduate degree and has a good head on her shoulders. And a pretty one too I must say.
The bars close at 3 am here and neither one of us wanted to say good night so we took a cab to a underground disco in a nearby industrial area she had heard about but had never been to before. The place was packed. We had to crawl thru a 4 foot door to get in. We paid the small cover charge and danced to the latin beat of this fun live band belting out the music.
After a few more Pisco sours and just before the sun was going to come up, we called it a night.
And what a fun night.
Sorry
no pictures
I didn't have my camera with me

Cathe

I said earlier about it being a small world.
I dated a flight attendant for 2 years about 2 years ago.
Her name was Cathy as well.
This Cathe lives in Peru
After I left her after the Disco, she had a flight to the USA that she had to work.
I thought it was ironic that she was in my home country and I was in hers.
But we made plans to see each other when she got back.
We had a picnic overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
It was perfect
We even had some good wine

My dilemma

She takes off again tomorrow for Mexico for 2 days.
She won't be back until late Thursday.
My dilemma is:
Do I continue my trip south
Or do I stay a bit longer here in Lima and hang out with her some more.
She wants me to go to a friend's wedding on Saturday with her.
She has a few days off after Thursday.
I need to make some ground so I can get to Europe in late May.
Not sure what to to do
I need to sleep on this one
Did I mention she is really cute and fun?

Stick around, you can make time (if you need to) somewhere else. Enjoy the respite.

A lot of your journey has involved the opportunity to interact with the local culture. This looks like the best opportunity to do just that.

Once the journey is over some of the distinct places you have been will blend together somewhat. I suspect your time with Cathe will stay with you a lot longer and remain more vivid.

How is this even a question?? You've been taking your time to enjoy the sights for the past few months and now you won't stay put to enjoy the one sitting right on your lap for a few days?!? Europe will still be there.
