Dumb Harley Question

I had a 2002 FXD. It was an 88. When did they go to the 96? When did they go to the larger (41mm?) front forks? That is all. Cheers

The 96" came in 2007. Six speed transmission and 49mm forks in 2006.

96 came out in 2006, fuel injected in 2007.
49 mm forks in 2006, not sure when the 41mm came out.
the 96 is a stroked 88, easy put larger cylinders to make
103, 107.
you can put larger cylinders on yours to make it a 95.

sorry i miss read your post, you had a 02 not have.....
07 and newer is the way to go, new frame in 06, 49mm forks,
6 speed, 96 cube, fuel injected, good stuff.

You might want to think about the FLD Switchback. comes with old style detachable bags and a Road King headlight and windshield. All the bags and windshild come off in about 3 minutes, The bonus is it comes with the 103 and 6 speed. Most I have seen have the ABS Security option.

There is a lot to like and it looks great in Red. It was introduce as a 2012 so not many used ones around.

Had a serious look at the Switchback. Can't put my finger on it, but I didn't like it. I'd go the extra bucks and just buy the RK or the SG.

Don't know about the rest of it, but the first production Harley-Davidson to have fuel injection was the 30th anniversary Electra Glide Ultra Classic in 1995.

Yeah 95/96 FLTCHCI. the only two years that a fuel injected Evo existed. My ex had one. It was a decent set up once I figured all of the damn wiring (I never would have believed an Ultra had more harness than a IROC camaro)

Both are good bikes the Street Glide is a very popular bike, The 12 inch shocks limit ground clearance compared to the Road King but there are shocks readily available. The 09 an later shock is a direct bolt on and better ride with air pressure at up to 50 psi instead of 35 on 08 and older, I like all the ground clearance I can get. For your info a Electra Glide Classic with a King tour pack has same msrp as a Street Glide and has an all day seat ,

If buying a used one 09 was a signifigant improvement in new frame. Much improved handling and ride quality with bigger tires. Also ABS brakes are excellent. . Brembos on 08 and later.

Good luck with your search. You might also want to explore FLHPs Police models . You will need to put a CDN speedo to met the new rules if you cross the bridge to buy a bike. Deeley is getting very difficult with imported bikes.

You might want to look at Robinsons in Wheatly Ont always a good selection of bikes and good folks. They were a Harley dealer for many years . Good folks with a lot of experience in importing bikes.

Thanks for the thought Miltonhog. Rented a SG for a week in AZ in Feb. loved it. No problems with Yank speedos. Imported my DR with one. Still have it. Fuck Deeley! Will look into Robinson's.

Actually, I bought a new 1997 model FLHTCI with EFI. I think the Marelli EFI was available on EGs until they changed to Delphi EFI.

Oh, and the 41mm front end came out in 1949.

I believe Deeley was pushing hard for the new regs announced in March I think that the R I V process was changed that new imported bikes must have a KMH speedo. A friend just brought in a 2012 FLHP from Wisconsin. The bike would not pass the Canadian Tire inspection with the MPH speedo, I do know you can buy a KMH speedo in the US for about half the Canadian cost. He bought one for about $250 from an American dealer rather than pay a Deeley price.

Changing out a speedo takes about 20 minutes on a Street Glide. They will need current mileage on bike and takes a couple of weeks to order.
