Local Advice on TAT & COBDR Ride Timing

I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and do most of my duel sport riding over in West Virginia. A friend and I started doing the TAT two years ago and our goal is to complete it in sections; not necessarily in order.
This summer, we are trailering out to Colorado and using Silverthorne as our base to drop the truck and trailer, as my son lives and works in that area.
The plan is to leave Silverthorne and ride pavement south to Trinidad where we will pick up the TAT. Ride the TAT west and at some point near the Utah border, drop down to Cortez to pick up the Colorado Back Country Discovery Route or COBDR. We will ride the COBDR north east ending in Steamboat Springs and dropping down via pavement back to Silverthorne to complete the loop. We are not constrained by any particular time slot, just planning on about 2 weeks to do the whole trip. Our initial thought was to leave in early July, but with all the late snow in the Rockies, we are wondering if early July is going to be too early for all the 12,000 ft passes. So, should we stick with this plan or leave late July or early August? Any other comments or suggestions about our planned itinerary, routing, places to stay or eat, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Neither of us has done any riding in Colorado, so we are looking foward to an epic adventure in the Rockies.

Thanks for the link. We might have to check it out, as it would fit perfectly with our projected timing.
