Awesome!

Thanks for the fantastic report. I enjoyed it very much and it made me pine for my days in China. I have actually eaten at Salvador's in Kunming. I concur that it is a must do for any expat or westerner.
Thanks again and safe travels.

Great report and a stunning trip!
It was a pity about the crash. Armco barriers are a bit solid but at least they would have saved your bike the long drop.
Best regards
Phil

5 Stars, loved every word and photograph.
Who says a China bike can't be reliable.

Fixed The Photos

The pictures vanished... … thanks for nothing Apple and your crappy mobile me / dot mac fiasco. I re-linked all 245 images to my non-Apple photo hosting.

Never did post the final GPS route we took, so here it is.

Cheers!

its a shame you can't ride a mainland plated bike into Hong Kong would be good especially in the new territories.

Just reread this fantastic trip report. Brought back memories. Your experiences paralleled mine, which is the kindness and generosity of rural Chinese people is astonishing.... Regarding your accident, I feel that Chinese tires are made from a very hard rubber compound. Long life, but a bit tricky in corners. My Chinese bike tires have dropped me twice .. And yes Peter's has great Mexican food. I had to resist eating there every day...
