I'm going to fast for a few days in preparation

Riding to work Thursday packed and ready to go....hope to get away a little after noon and head partway down the long way - which way I haven't decided yet.
Finish up Friday and help out when I get there or do a few shots with the host - whichever seems more appropriate at the time
Last year I landed in Salida, had breakfast in Saguache....Wolf Creek Pass, Chama, backroads... wonder what conditions are like over Cumbres/La Manga.

If you'll are looking for an Alcalde start for a great DS ride. You can exit paved roads over by the Alcalde Baseball diamonds. Head east. There are lots of choices along this route. I run up the main arroyo as far as I can. Then I took a couple of lefts to get up on top of the mesa. There are a lot of choices but it seems that most of them end up over by Truchas. Also FR 639 out the back side of Truchas is open. Yesterday there was a lot of mud from the fresh snow. Oh and some snow too. But one can get through. It connects to the Trampas road. Yesterday the river crossing was only a couple of feet deep. Once you get back to HWY 76 you can head south and reconnect to one of the county roads. The main one out of velarde is hard to find along the hwy. But keep looking for a West turnoff and hopefully you will find it. Otherwise it's back to Truchas for the run west. If you find the CR that will bring you right back to the Velarde Head start. The ride from start to finish is about 70 miles. Some great views. And everything from desert sand, ruts to high mountain mud and snow. .

So I know that Osprey was talking about riding down over Friday and Saturday, but is anyone interested in a paved-route ride down on Saturday from the front range? I'm going to have to work on Friday.

I know some folks were talking about a shorter ride on Sat up to the SF ski basin via forest road 102. I was up there yesterday and there is a closed gate a few miles sort of the ski basin road. There is a sign that says it was supposed to open 4/15, so if anyone is set on that ride, a call to the forest service would be a good idea.

Last week's Moab trip was scuttled. I ended up working instead.

To make up for it, I'm leaving on Thursday and taking the long way down. I might even leave on Wednesday night. I NEED to get out of here.

It's a conspiracy

Someone already scheduled a large project kick-off meeting for the Friday of the Canyonlands ride - effectively taking me off that one for sure.
More than likely I couldn't have done it anyway, taking two long weekends in a row when a big project is getting a head of steam

Today they tried to schedule a project meeting for THIS Friday
Sorry guys, no can do. I don't take many Fridays off, but this one is carved in granite. And good luck finding me after noon Thursday

Snow's coming down pretty good out there too-

Well, looks like I'm not going to be making it down; I have to go to a hot spring next weekend with a new lady friend. Not that bunking with a bunch of drunk sweaty men wouldn't be just sweet as all get out... but I hope you understand.
