Yes indeed. That's a high honor to have met those gentlemen, Barney. We've lost most of the WWII vets, and the few that are left won't be with us much longer. When you said "one last reunion," you weren't just using a figure of speech. Today's the 71st anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. I salute you, Raiders

I think he paid about that much for the trip and told me it was worth every penney.
Wow. Great pics, this one's my favorite. Talk about a dream come true for a history buff...

TRANSALP is available...

Cool pic, Barney. Fo Sho.

Look POGs. At this time, I am not willing nor inclined to try and sell my Transalp through the regular means that ppl do 'round here. So I'm just letting you know - it is for sale. Some of you have seen it. And I would imagine that those of you who did, would agree that it is a damn clean example of the fighting red TA.

The clutch needs attention. It's been that way since I bought it 2 or 3 years ago. If you want to manhandle it and do wheelies and roosts and stuff - you'll need to replace it. Udder than that - it cruises on down the road just fine. Nothing is wrong with it other than that. If I were to keep it, I would up-tooth the primary sprocket for a more relaxed ride on the interstate, and not even mess with the clutch till it really was out.

3 Grand - no ups, extras, or forking around. PM me or spread the word.

Thanks.
Me.

Not a bad view to wake up to.

Maybe spring really is coming.

OK, back to the regularly scheduled old guys.

I took the photo yesterday morning.

That's in the San Isabel NF, probably on road 376A (but I could be wrong on that, I want paying much attention to where I was), overlooking Buena Vista, CO. I think that the tallest peak there in the picture is Mt. Princeton.

EDIT: I guess you can't really see BV in the photo. It is hiding behind some of the hills toward the right side.

Westfest is in BV this year. You too could take this picture (sans snow)!

The Stelvio is a keeper; it has a few friends now.

(the Stelvio is mostly confined to the street now that there are some real dirt bikes in the stable)

(holy cannoli this thing is fast)

(work in progress)

And just a quick snapshot from this morning, camped up in the hills:

Farrr out, man! Glad to see yer enjoyin life out in CO. Sure do like that view from yer campsite; we don't get too much of that around here, ya know.

Back when I was a teenager in the 80's my dad had one of those CR480s with the left-side kickstarter, he told me I could have the bike if I could get it started. Sprained my ankle tryin to start that sucker. It's all for the best--I prolly woulda died young if it had ended up being mine. Only bike I've ever ridden that would power wheelie in third! That thing was strong as acid.

This 480 not really that wild. It's easy to start and although really fast, doesn't really have the huge power hit that everyone was warning me about. In fact, I'd say it's really easy to ride. Of course, I'm comparing it back-to-back with the uber-sensitive RXV. Maybe if you weigh 150 lbs and are coming from a small 4-stroke it feels a bit different.

Here's a panorama from Saturday:

Well I weighed 125# back in '86 and I was riding a Honda XL350...and that 480 made me feel like I stuck a finger in an electrical socket! What impressed me so much about that bike is that it didn't need any revs to make power, like all the other 2-strokes I've ridden. If it was running, it was in the powerband; amazingly easy to wheelie

Wish I had some pics of my dad riding that bike...it really brought out the Evel Knievel in him

I sure do like that panorama pic, BTW

Maybe that's exactly it--I have never ridden a "proper" 2-stroke to compare it with. This thing rides more like a big 4-stroke except that it's comparatively weightless.

That is very cool, Inept. You can see the angle of attack of the SR-71 is much greater than that of the F-4; it must have been a challenge to fly the Blackbird slow enough to get the picture in formation with the Phantom.

Just so you're not to jealous of the riding out here, we do have some obstacles that you don't generally see in POG-land. Like this one, the frozen creek crossing (from just two days ago):

That chunk of ice will be causing much sweating and cursing until at least the end of next month!

EDIT: Here's a video of yours truly crossing the ice (with lots of help) a few weeks ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGU8pd8zvnE
