Old Cahawba near Selma, AL

I have 2 bikes, a scooter for when I am by myself and a Spyder for when the wife is with me. This day it was just me so I took the scooter and rode the 40 or so miles from Centreville down to Selma, Alabama. The goal was to visit Old Cahaba, also spelled Cahawba, which was the first permanent state capital of Alabama from 1820 to 1825. It is now a ghost town and state historic site.

From 1819 to 1826, Cahawba served as Alabama's first capital. It was once a thriving antebellum river town, a major distribution point for cotton shipped down the Alabama River to Mobile, a Confederate prison for captured Union soldiers, and a rural community of African American families. By 1900, however, most of Cahawba's buildings had burned, collapsed, or had been dismantled. A place of picturesque ruins, Cahawba today is an important archaeological park with an extensive descendants' network.

Places like this are interesting to me so I seek them out and try to schedule a ride. I always have a video camera rolling on my helmet but unless something out of the ordinary happens, I don't save the videos. I do take lots of pictures and you can see the shots of this trip on this page.

If you'd like to see our other ride reports, check out the links in my sig. Ride safe!

Nice to have another Kymco rider from Alabama on this site. I find that a small scooter is a great way to explore and take lots of pics.
I ride, Therefore I Am.
