Cam chain clatter

Im looking at a 07 990 to replace my 950. There was a fair amount of clatter from the top end at start up. Lasted for 30 secs or so. What is acceptable? I would prefer none at all or a few seconds. But as the motor was slightly warm when I got there I think the PO had warmed it a bit to prevent it clattering at all. Its done 40k kms. Otherwise in v/good nik. When hot it was quiet.
My 950 only does it when hot and resterted. Only lasts 1-2 seconds.

Is there a bigger problem with the 990 I am looking at?

Mine's done that since it was new. It's a little "clacky" when it's cold.
