OK, is it just me, or did anyone else cringe when Vettel was talking to Coulthard and said "I can't raise my leg that high, I'm not a woman..." WTF
Stick to driving my man, leave the talking to someone else...
I was actually taken aback when I first heard it, I was not watching the tv screen at the time. When I backed it up and watched it again, it was clear why he said that and probably what he ment too.

He actually said" I don't get my my legs so high because I am not a women. At the same time David Coulthard was trying to pull his leg up to show the viewers something. I think Seb was trying to say he can't raise his leg like that because he is not a " vegas show girl". I think his english is not as good as his german!

interesting stats from Bahrain

Top five stats from the Bahrain Grand Prix

Keith Collantine
Apr 23, 2013, 8:48 AM EDT

The top three in the Bahrain Grand Prix was the same as we had last year something which very rarely happens in F1. Here are the top five stats from last weekends race.

Podium d嶴 vu
The 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix had something very unusual in common with the 1999 Spanish Grand Prix and the 1965 British Grand Prix.
All three saw the exact same podium as they had at the previous race one year before:
Races 1st 2nd 3rd
1964 and 1965 British Grands Prix Jim Clark Graham Hill John Surtees
1998 and 1999 Spanish Grands Prix Mika Hakkinen David Coulthard Michael Schumacher
2012 and 2013 Bahrain Grands Prix Sebastian Vettel Kimi Raikkonen Romain Grosjean

Mercedes match BRM and Cooper
Mercedes scored back-to-back pole positions for the first time since 1955.
Nico Rosberg gave them their 11th pole, putting them level with former teams BRM and Cooper.

Raikkonen keeps on scoring
Kimi Raikkonen is drawing ever closer to that record for most consecutive points scores. Bahrain was his 21st in a row, leaving him three short of Michael Schumachers record.

Red Bull in the top five
Red Bull are now the fifth most successful Formula One team of all time having scored their 36th win last weekend. Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Lotus lie ahead of them they need another 45 to draw level with the latter in fourth place.

and Vettel in the top six
This was Sebastian Vettels 28th career win meaning he has won more races than any F1 driver bar Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Fernando Alonso.

However another source has claimed they are each eligible for 1M euro bonuses for each win (and less for lesser placings). IIRC Webber won twice last year. So that's about $15 million, plus placings, plus endorsements.

They must like his telemetry at Red Bull. Or he has pictures they don't want us to see.
Good catch. Yes, I quoted one of the lower figures I found and there are lots higher. I suspect he's at $20M US or so with everything factored in. Not too shabby. Of course there are some drivers who make essentially nothing and/or are required to bring sponsorship of their own too, so not every driver is making a killing.

As a tangent, it was interesting to see the old Weber in the last race.... the widest car in the paddock. I'm not in favor of lots of penalties, but I've never seen a race with so much wild swerving to block. This is a wreck waiting to happen.

That is a very optomistic viewpoint, good on ya.

That's a surprise. I like him, but he's not worth that much.
They could have Kovalinen for a third of the money. Or probably 1/10 th because he'd be happy to get the seat, and likely better results, and probably a better team player too.

+1

I looked at the numbers from Crash Net and they have 45M for Kimi in 2009 from Ferrari! 30M for Alonso this year, 10M for V3ttel... If that is the case IMHO Ferrari is overpaying and Red Bull is getting a f'n good deal... So I don't really believe any of it.

On speed last year Matchet said Kimi was on a bonus system getting x dollars per point and they worked it out to about 10M. That makes a bit more sense but who knows... I think we will never really know what the drivers get paid. If I am not mistaken Shumi said in an interview when he was at Ferrari that he made more money with endorsments than anything else. If Kimi was ever worth 45M, Shumi would have been worth at least 2 or 3 times that.

Any way you look at it, it's a shit load of coin to drive a glorified go kart around in circles!

F1 wages took a huge hit a few years ago. That Kimi/Ferrari number was an outlier. Won't be repeated for a long time, I would guess.

I've also read that Vettel does not have "representation", so he does all his own contract negotiations, which could explain his (relatively) lackluster salary.

...that being said, I'd take it any day...

Do you have his poster on your bedroom wall? Not often you see such a man-crush.
