I watched Spies all the way out of AMA superbike to MotoGP and really did expect him to end up a world champion there one day. I was a solid fan until the end of last season, when I started realizing he may never make it to the top. Now, this season, he isn't doing any better, sad to see. Still, it takes nothing away from his accomplishments otherwise, and he did win a MotoGP race, many never even make it to that point.

I get it with Ben and I hope it isn't the end of his career, but shoulders suck. I had two surgeries on mine and it still hurts ever day. Neil Hodgson's career ended because of a bad shoulder.
Hope he recovers enough to ride around in 8-10th on the Duc.

Doctor's advising 3 weeks of therapy then back at it. I don't care who your doctor is, 3 weeks is not enough to heal a shoulder. He may be able to push the bike around but there'll be chronic damage.
Too bad, but cest la vie. Maybe he can get on the pedal circuit? Not much for counter-steering there.

Just low bone density and broken collar bones.

The owner of Ignite wanted a) an American, and b) a Ducati. Spies' ride is safe. Whether that's a good thing is a different matter.

It would be a shame to see Ben go out this way.

Safe ride on a crap ride may be worse than no ride. And who really thinks the current Duc( non jap style ) bike is ever going to be competitive?

spies has lost his mojo, with the bad luck and injuries within the past couple years, I think it has really wore on him, and his mom is probably up his ass every day. I see him getting out and riding his bicycle. He just doesn't seem like the same person that won the WSBK championship, or even that same person that was on the tech 3 bike and running near the front.
maybe he'll come back to ama and Hayes will have someone to race with

Ben rushed into Motogp to soon, based on his results in WorldSBK I think he thought it was going to be easier. It just never clicked for him, a few flashes of something but mostly dissappointing results, bad luck and excuses.

Well, Ben Spies really did have more than his fair share of bad luck last year.

Ducati has been a career-killer for everybody except Stoner, who could ride the damn thing, and Rossi, who seems to have an army of fans and huge market value no matter how he performs. Spies needs to figure out, what everyone except Stoner havent been able to do so far, or hes on his way out, cos hes not Rossi, Im afraid.

I would venture to say that at this early, early, stage it is not looking like a career killer for Dovi either. At this stage I don't think you have to win on the Ducati to be successful. Just outpace your teammates, qualify well and continue to get TV time, and help develop the bike. I think Ducati will be happy with this.

And the other factories have to be noticing that Dovi seems to be over-acheiving on the Duc just like we are noticing it.

Well, I think for once Dovi's 'thinker'(an obvious opposite to someone like MM) nature that seemed to be his ball and chain has allowed him to understand that bike faster than anybody else. I'm impressed by him for once.

How is Dovi getting results with a pair of 7th place finishes?

He is finishing right where Hayden and Rossi have finished on the bike for the last two years.

I am hoping this season's Duc is actually a better bike and Hayden is just still a little hampered by his recent surgery.

Can you imagine Dean writing this about Mat Mladin?
