Wicked KTM SXC 625 - tank swap - Someone know the correct parts?

Ok... Trying to get some extra distance out of the SXC and well, it's not working out quite right....

Here's my unfortunate situation:

The Parts:
2004 KTM SXC 625

bought a Duke II 11L tank

Bought a KTM Enduro LC4 seat with a XPC rework.

My research tells me that the 11L and 18L tank use the same seat.

Further, single pipe SXC(2003-2004)/SMC(prior to 2006) and basically all the LC4 640 Enduros share a subframe which work with the same seat

And one of the models that work are:

P/N 5840714040 /58407140500 which is superseded by P/N 58407140030 (explicitly calls 18L on seat)
The situation:

Tank mounts wonderfully.

This seat is not looking quite right. It seems to pivot on the mounts and needs to be flexed a lot more than it should to mount to the tank and the subframe.

Actually, the subframe doesn't seem to hold the seat particularly well. There are gaps. Once I put the tank on, I can get it on but I'm bending the tank, have gaps and is generally yucky - all of which tells me something's wrong.

Here are the pics:

Subframe and seat mounting:

The seat unmounted:

Mounted without Tank:

Here are the gaps once the tank is installed:

Researched quite a bit before buying so I'm a little surprise...I accept that what I have may not work, but I'm torn between trying to getting it right (at a cost) vs. selling it off and living with the low range. I actually like the stock SXC ergos incl. the seat so no big loss other than fuel capacity.

What do you all think?

Some newer dukes have a different subframe than the LC4. I am guessing you should try a LC4 seat with that .. im sure an adventure seat wont work.

Just a quick update.

The tank p/n is 58407013100 and is from a Duke II.

I purchased the tank and seat separately so I can't guarantee that they work together in any application.

Thanks!

From what I remember from my sxc, when I put the 18l tank on it, was that the OEM seat would not work and I had to get a 640 "comfort" seat for it....

Not all enduro lc4 seats are the same... I gather your enduro lc4 seat would work with other lc4s enduros but it might not work with a duke II (non enduro).. You might want to check SMJ. I know a few folk with SMC's that are using the 11/12 liter tank with one of the ergo seats

Maybe when they recovered the seat there was a bit too much tension put on & the cover is bending the seat base up some?

Cheers

I'm no help, but if you wanna get rid of that tank let me know. I've been trying to find one here in America for a decent price for a little while now.

pulled the seat and tank on my 03 SXC and here are the numbers....

Tank - 584.07.013.100 11 liter tank
Seat - 58407140400 and below that 58407140500 and marked
"for 18L tank"

Hope that helps man, let me know if you want any more info as the bike is disassembled at the moment.

Dude, you are awesome. Thanks! And what you've listed is what I thought were the right parts...and the exact ones I have.

So with that in mind, I have some more troubleshooting to do figure out the ugly fit. Maybe it is a bit warped from the XPC work?

Wish my fit looked like yours:

Edit: When you re-assemble can you take note of how much flexing of the seat you need to do (eg: after the seat is mounted to the tank fastener, how much do you need to push the rear of the seat down to get it to fit).

I threw it back together to check how much I had to hold it down and all I do is hold it in place. It fits nearly perfect. Are you sure your snorkel isn't hitting it? Mine is removed completely, and otherwise is the same as yours. I will also ask if the covering isn't warping the seat pan. Other than that, this is a real real head scratcher for me.

I'm wrenching tonight so I should have time to play around. The snorkel is installed so maybe that's the culprit tho I thought I doubled checked contact there. Hmmmmm.

Anyway, appreciate it. Invaluable stuff!

I can always yank the seat easy enough to do any other checks you need man...

OK, I went out and popped the seat back off. It sits nice and flush as I said earlier. I would think after looking at it closer, that it would clear the snorkel. I took some reference pictures of the seat bottom and bike frame and if you want me to post them, let me know. I don't want to unneccesarily photobomb your thread.

Chasbo-

Thanks again. I think the XPC rework may have changed the seat some.

Took the snorkel off and it's still a labored fit.

Would like to see you photos (for reference) I'll PM you my e-mail address so you don't have to go thru the trouble of hosting pictures for the thread.

@ This point my next plan is: unstaple part of the cover - attempt to refit - restaple. Ay-ya-Ay.

Carl, sorry for the delayed reply. I have been on a motorcycle trip to NM for the last 10 days. The seat fit my 2001 LC4 Enduro with the 18L tank. The XPC work pulled the pan a little, but with the front in place it only took pushing it down with a couple of fingers to start the rear bolt. My bike had the 18L tank when I got it, plus the original seat and a comfort seat that both fit. The pan that you have with the XPC seat is from the original seat that worked with the small tank and the large tank. Also, the snorkel on my bike is installed, and OEM. Not sure if any of this helps but I will be available now to reply to questions. I will also look at my frame/tank/seat juncture for comparison.
