990 Adv throttle cam- Jerk free !!

Hi all..... after getting fed up with the on/off throttle snatch of the bike, a mate of mine suggested i try changing the throttle cam. KTM do a g2 throttle cam kit for approx 75 uk pounds. Mate found out about the RC8 progressive open ended throttle tube. Its a similar profile apparently as the G2 cam kit but a fraction of the price - apparently it really smoothes out the on/off snatch from a Fi 990-

Part no 69002021100 GRIP-SET OPEN END PROGRESSIVE 20.04 retail... I'm sure my US and Canadian cousins would be able to buy it even cheaper than rip off Britain..... I'm happy tho.....it transforms the bike- smoother than a very smooth thing !!

$35.99 US. That's cheap enough just to try it out.

The G2 did nothing for my '08 as far as twitchy throttle goes. But what you can see of it looks nice. If youre like me, you'll soon get used to on / off switch throttle and think nothing of it.

If a throttle cam fixed your bike then it was never truly bad to begin with. You aren't the first person to come in here touting something like this as the solution to everyone's woes.

I just ordered KTM's own one that my dealer says is the cure to all evils but at 108.50 its not a cheap thing to buy to try if it doesnt cure it

The 990 is a wild beast that takes some time and practice to tame. The G2 or any other throttle tube helps some but mostly just riding it lot helps the most.

G2 with the 400 cam helped mine some, but not completely. bete.

It's funny that you mention this part. I initially found my RC8R snatchy and was advised to try this "progressive throttle kit" that you mention. I disassembled my RC8r throttle to I stall it and discovered that my model year came with that very same throttle (other variants and model years had different profile throttle cams) so I didn't install it but I still have it in my storage. From what I recall, there were three throttle tubes for the RC8 whose profiles varied and were easily identifiable by the color of the throttle cam. The extra throttle that I have in storage is orange plastic versus other RC8throttle tubes that are white or black. If my 2012 990adventure R is anything other than orange, I will swap this one in and try to gauge any change. I will also compare profiles of the throttle cam to see if there is a difference compared to my 990 adv R. Who knows, it may smoothens it out a bit at low/partial throttle situations.

Look for an update from me in a few days - I'm traveling for work tomorrow.

That RC8 throttle cam is about same as the 400 cam from G2.

Yes, I suspect that the orange ktm throttle is the same as the G2 400 cam or if not the same, quite similar. It is very non-round in profile at the beginning of throttle pull.
