I kept my bikes in a storage unit while I was in the army. It was only a 20 minute drive and it still sucked. It turned every little 5 minute thing into a project.

Do you really need a car? I've basically always had a Ford ranger, on my fifth one now. It gets me to work just as good as a car would...

All typos and misspellings blamed on my phone.

i would vote for a HF 4x8 folding trailer and a hitch for your car. Most class I & II hitches will handle the weight of the trailer and a small dualsport no problem. I did that for years before biting the bullet on a truck.

What storage unit (even far east of LA) is going to cost $45 a month. I think thats the biggest challenge there, no storage in socal is that cheap!

Been keeping a bike in a couple different states so I can ride in the winter. Its a street bike and wont fit in a 5x5 unit. Only a couple bucks more for a 5x10 and then you'll have lots of room for spares ect. Shop a bit for a deal, they are out there for sure. So far they have all welcomed bikes. Lived briefly in an apartment years ago. Can't own much but a change of clothes!
One option might be to trade car for some kind of van and keep the bike in there all the time but of there are drawbacks to that as well.

I would spend the least amount of time in San Bernardino as possible

Trailer in a Bag.
Look it up that might be your best alternative.
Small, light weight perfect for towing a small bike and packs into the trunk of the car when your done.

i used to have a nissan versa, it was like 300 bucks for a custom hitch to be made.

that little car would tow a 4x6 trailer i would rent from the local equipment rentals place for 15 bucks a day, and get 40mpg doing it. the upside was, 3 bikes, 3 doods and it was easy to do. plus you dont have to store, or maintain/register it.

thats what i would do. however, i am now moto only, no car, and only have one bike.
