990 adv: false neutral?

during my ride today, i found a false neutral in the higher gears, between 4th and 5th mainly. bike is relatively new with under a 1000 miles on it. it happened 3x on a 200 mile ride.oil is 300 miles old, so it is relatively fresh.

is this a normal 990 trait? i kinda worried me and i didn't trust it on some of the fast sections. anyone else have this issue, or do i just have a retarded left foot?

Try adjusting the shifting lever

i set it up when i first got the bike. it is not hitting anything on the upswing, and if i lower it one more notch, my ankle is angled too downword.

after doing a little research, others have had this issue before. i made sure the oil was topped off and checked chain tension.

after further research, it must be my bum leg. it only happens when i ride in anger, not when 2 up wifey slabbing it. i will keep an eye on it though.

My 2012 R did the very same one day repeatedly with just over 1000 kms on the clock. I contacted the dealer who promptly contacted KTM and they said they had no idea of an existing problem so I was to watch it , try and see if its always in the same gear and bring it in to the dealer for a test drive to see if they could duplicate the problem.

I've been back at work and have been unable to do so yet but but the dealer Valley Motorsports and KTM Canada were exceptionally fast to look into the issue and try and ensure it wasn't just some quirky break in issue. Both extremely satisfied my questions but I have yet to get it to them or have the problem rear its head again either.

Bike has another 700 kms now and seems to have improved.

Curious what others have to say on this.

Make you use the clutch on upshifts and be firm when shifting not lazy. I am on my second one these and found the same trait on both of them.

My 2010 Adv was a little notchy going into 4th gear. It got much better in 5000 miles or so.

Often missed shifts are because the shift lever is too high. Your ankle won't sink the dogs all the way home.

Lets review how to shift. Clutch, lift lever AND HOLD, let clutch out, release lever. Once in a thousand shifts you'll feel it sink in that last little bit to make the shift. Practice.

what if i am wheelying it through the gears? haven't hit fourth yet, but 1-->3rd has been fun so far...

that's funny right there. i know the procedure, as this is certainly not my first motorcycle. you saying that i gotta shift it like a grandma? in that case i may have bought the wrong motorcycle. damn, i knew i should have bought that used canam spyder automatic...

seriously, the bike is what i have wanted for a long time. i have broken my left tibia/fibula multiple times, so that may be the culprit. yesterday i took a shot the lower part of my leg from a branch, and i noticed a bruise this morning. that may be the reasoning. they don't call me "rodknee" for nothing....

That happens on my 950 when I shift softly. It just takes being a little more firm in the shift.

If you think its a problem, go ride a BMW. You'll realize quickly that you don't have a problem.

My brother calls shifting a BMW 'the waltz'. Clutch, 2, 3. Krunch, 2,3.

You can shift anything after that.

Had The Same issue with the 690 enduro R , and off course the dealer said it was normal,no solution here.
