My dealer (Morton's BMW) got essentially the same reply. They are due to ship on May 3 and they are adamant that there is no recall. Product will be here very shortly. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Did I mention that I REALLY need new tires?

I guess we will be the Guinea Pigs

We have been waiting, excited, thinking these will be the best tires ever. The longer we wait, the more we want them. Now I am starting to realize that the first to try these (me, being one of the first) will be the Guinea Pigs. We will get them, mount them, take off to parts unknown and no telling how they will be. Will the front tire have leak issues, will the tread come apart, will they wear out in 3,000 miles, will they be terrible in wet conditions, etc. Oh well, someone has to be first. Hopefully, Metzeler has produced a great tire in Karoo 3 and we will have great success with no recalls.

Heck , I am just trying to get to guinea pig status. I have a ride this weekend and no tire ( worth putting on).

they are in the US. The issue some are having is the radial/GS sizes are made in Germany and would be on different production schedules, than the bias tires (most of the other sizes) which are made in Brazil. I don't know exactly what sizes are in the US but at least some of them are here, the rest are at least on the way from a source at Metzeler NA. there hasn't been any recall on tires. hard to recall what's not out yet lol. I"m sure that BMW and Metzeler did lots of testing wtih the tires before they decided to put them on the bikes as an OE fitment. it's not just a shot in the dark these days for what tires to put on the bikes. The suspension and many things on the bikes are geared specifically for the tires. Read the road racing world track test on the Ducati Paningale when it came out. Ducati NA wouldn't give them a test bike unless it was ridden on the track with the OE tires as the traction control was developed around the diameter and shape of the OE tires. Change the tires and all bets were off (pro rider wise) with the TC. interesting reading..

anyway hopefully the tires will be the holy grail of MC DS tires.

So I am dropping my bike off for its 48,000 mile service this afternoon. I am going to have the Karoo 3 tire installed at the same time, even if they only have the rear. I am hoping to hear from them later today that the front has arrived as well, but since it is in anyway, I figure I'll get the rear taken care of now and wait for the front.

Yup. I want to try the rear tires on my KLR and my ADV. Got TKC's ready to mount on the fronts.

Both bikes will have TKC's on the front and Karoo 3's on the rear ( if the Karoo's ever get here !!. )
