07 or 09 990??? Help! Quick opinions needed

I'm a long time KTM dirt rider who hung up the XCW 300 and is about to buy a 990 Adventure. Here's my dilemma: I have to decide between two bikes my tomorrow, as one will be gone if I don't.

1) 2009 990 with 14,000 miles
2) 2007 with 1,400 miles

The '07 looks brand new. Literally like it should be on a showroom floor. The '09 is also in excellent shape. Both bikes are similarly equipped, and both are basically the same price, just over $9k (bags, guards, etc on both).

My gut says go for lower miles, because if I put 15K on the '07 it still only has 16K on it, while the '09 will be nearing the dreaded 30,000 mile mark. I say dreaded because the bikes with 30K+ seem to sit for a while. But then I think....newer is better, right? The '09 does have a couple more upgrades: Heated grips and add on headlights.

Anyway, experienced 990 owner's thought would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Have you ridden both? The low speed FI is supposedly much improved on the 09/later bikes.

If it truely is a 2009 (it has the new style dash), then go for it instead of the 2007. They really have lots of improvements over the pre-2009 models. (SD engine, smoother FI to say the least)

I have a 07 and I rode a mate's 09 a few times; they feel as they were different bikes on the FI smoothness department.
Try to take a ride on both. If you can't test them I would say go with 09 (you'll only miss the low miles and a nice dash )

Lets start with the fact that a 2007 and 1500miles is suspiciously low...if it is real then I'd still go with the 2009 for it must be ridden frequently (yet still not much, my 2009 has 45k miles) hence chances are it is better monitored in terms of working order...

To conclude I ve ridden both stock and the 2007 is less smooth and felt less powerful than the 2009...

Well,

Sadly the guy with the '09 is flaking on me. Good guy, but he had some trouble getting the bike to start and now wants to have it checked out before selling, which I commend, but now I'm not sure it's going to happen. Meantime, I have a line on an '06 with 5K original miles that's loaded and looks perfect. I've heard some say they like the carb version better.

$7,500, sounds like a decent deal. Thoughts?

that is a little pricey for an 06, even though it has 5k on it. to reference, i bought a brand new 12' couple months ago for 11k. i would think around 6k, depending on accessories. good luck.

If I were you I'd insisted on finding a 2009+ bike...they were much improved over the earlier ones...

Youll like the carbs better if you do much off roading.
IMO the 06 S was the best ever made.

Yeah, I should have bought it. They put it up on CL and it sold about an hour later. I'm going with the '06. Old piece of 5,000 mile junk that it is...
