Cool2 HID light conversion on KTM 950 -good idea?

My '03 950 Adventure lights weren't brilliant so I fitted a HID conversion on the dip beam .65 well spent, amazing light making high beam redundant. So I went and fitted one on that as well!
The result is FANTASTIC and no one EVER can say "didnt see you!"
but i have a problem now
The area above the lower bulb on the reflector is no longer shiny chrome.
It's sort of dull bronze.

i am confused! the HID kit is supposed to run cooler, yet this would seem to suggest the opposite
or is it old age on my 41,000 mile bike and 10 years's always garaged so don't think water has got in.

anyone else had this problem?
