How Much Gear Do You REALLY Wear?
So I jumped on my Riva in a pair of hiking boots, jeans, Hoodie, Insulated Leather Glooves and a half-shell with the earmuff/flap thing. (I'm a n00b)
This was thanksgiving weekend...it was COLD. But seemed like only my upper legs were the cold part. Oh and my face....(so I kept it around 30mph on backroads.) I'm not licenced yet and the scoot isn't registered so I chilled on backroads... But I was riding and it occurred to me. Is full stitch really needed at 30? Is road Rash at THAT speed going to be THAT bad? I understand the helmet but is the 3/4 or 1/2 (Counts as 3/4 according to dot) going to be cool? I DID decide I need glasses or goggles though. (I have both and I intend to put a band on glasses if I go that route) Riding Boots with only a footbrake? I know a lot of people here are ATGATT but I'm not convinced nor do I want gruesome pics of crashes. The fastest I ever intend to go on this thing is 55 (if it'll pull me) And while I spend time in pretty decent traffic, it's not particularly fast. Am I just an idiot? (I'm getting my permit and the scoot licenced early jan and my full road test in April or may, I'm at college and am not riding right now) I just wanted to hop on the Riva and get a real feel for the scoot's 10" wheels and something like 11-12 bhp. I hadn't rode since my cousin's Honda CT70 when I was 8. It was REALLY easy to ride. My dad put my 15 year old sister on it and she almost dropped it though...maybe it's the male blood (makes tim allen barking noise)
