I wish I still had the link to a RR from last spring that started similar to yours but the guy rode south. He ended up meeting a lady in Brazil (or some other So. Amer. country) sold the bike, bought a car and they finished the trip to the south tip. He then decided to relocate to the America on south side of the equator.

Putting some dirt rodes in your travel plans seems to help solve a world of problems!!

I'm sure you're busy leading up to leaving; but any updates? I'll be following this closely - we're the same age and have similar backgrounds, and I can't wait to read more about this.

Wow, way more interest than I expected!

Thanks everyone for the advice. The Tent Space thread is great! I feel guilty 'cold calling' others for a handout though. Perhaps I can think up some kind of barter to help you fellas out as well.

I'm sure it'll all be an experience. Broke down, flat tire, and raining, I'm looking forward to every last bit of it.

Does anyone have experience with Does it show a map like the actual SPOT website does? I would like to have a map of where I've been, and where I am for people to see.

Not a whole lot of excitement is going on right now. Just a whole lot of cleaning, moving out of my living arrangements, and putting the finals tracks into the GPS. I haven't put in waypoints for fuel though... I suppose I should do that.

Saturday I will tear into the bike to redo the leaky fork seal, re-route the fuel line, and I think I am going to throw the new tires on now. This rear tire is just tearing apart too quickly. I don't think I'd make it to the other side of Louisiana before I had cord showing through.

Wish I had a more exciting update for you fellas.

Since I know everyone is all about pictures, how about a few of me, about 100 years ago.

And a few of my other bike, and how I used to spend every free moment...

Can't let the cold Maine winter stop the riding!

Saturday/Sunday we will back to our regularly scheduled programming of XRR Prep pictures, packing, and the final tidbits before getting on the road!

Cherish this time you've gifted yourself. I am sure there are plenty of middle-agers like me that will be subscribed to this R/R that are living vicariously.

The more miles ridden on outside will allow you to search and find the real you on the inside.......................

Ride Baby Ride!!!!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Just remember those folks in the tent space thread are volunteering

I am about to start setting up with folks on that thread for me and my dad's trip to Sturgis (we wanna go just once) trip later this year. We're both on a budget so we're looking for anyway to cut cost.

I had my residence on the tent space thread for a few years until I got stationed in California in March and moved back into the barracks and had to take myself off

Edit- Here's what a SPOTWALLA map looks like most times.

On top of that SPOTWALLA keeps the track for as long as youkeep an account with them. The SPOT website map drops tracks after 30 days I believe.

Thumb Hang in there

Fellow 650r, old xr600 rider here. Will be following along. Getting laid off end of the month after 6 years of a 9-5 in a cubicle, so my turn may be soon. 35 and still alive, may as well go for a ride!

Reminds me of this show I found a while back. Bought recordings of the episodes. This and Cycles South, good stuff.

Have fun and stay safe. You got some riding skills man!
