You get it Dan. I never bought a bike that didn't excite me. This buy is gonna make me happy. I do know that. But it's less exciting then when I bought bacon. And it's a Klr.

You like to ride stone roads, go on long road tours, track days, etc. They don't make 1 bike fits all, but that V will surely do all of them OK. I think you just need "a bike" that can do all of what you want, while you save up the bucks for your dream bike(s).

....and I owned this bike a year after Mark. I geared it down to make it friendlier around town.

If I remember my research: the 2005 ECM was so bad Suzuki offered a replacement/ recall. The bike Mark - and later I - owned was eligible for this, but never had it done AFAICT. As such, it was an absolute "worst case." The only thing which might have fixed it was a new ECM or a Power Commander. The PC was close to $400, I think - I never had the scratch to do it.

I had a love/ hate relationship with that bike. When it ran good, it was awesome. When it ran bad, it was somewhere between frustrating and dangerous... and you never knew which it was going to be. Very sensitive to temp, humidity, fuel quality, etc. The intermittency of the problem renders a test ride nearly useless.

I traded it for the new '12 Wee, which is the best/ most boring bike I've owned. If Suzuki releases a new Vee with a decent 1L the new Wee is gone.

... but I'd stay FAR away from an '05 and/ or not buy without a PC already installed.

I am in talks with this guy. I like the bike and we are taking price without the boxes and racks. I wanna use my panniers and buy a heavier rack.

How does it sound to you V owners?

You were right about the Klr rear wheel. I took it off today and spacer and bearings came out it pieces. I am lucky I made it home that weekend.

Thanks and I still hate you. Dennis

As a 2nd owner of an 02 1K. I bought it in 04 w/ 8K its now Pushing 85K I say $4700 is a bit steep myself. The 2k in mods IMHO are a wash we all know that.

The V's are rock solid beat them and they like it type of bike. The missing issue others speak of only happens under certain criteria.

Primarily long hauls where the throttle is held on a relatively steady state. Ya you would think TPS is the issue but its actually a bug in their firmware. After you get used to the reset trick you can flick thru the process in 2-3seconds.
1] pull in clutch
2]flick kill switch to off and right back on
3]roll throttle 2-3 times full on/off
4]dump the clutch

In 85K+ miles motors been opened and valves adjusted once. If needs a cluch now only because of the inherent chatter that comes from the 1K and its now time. I beat the piss out of mine on & off road. Ran several DS events the Pine Barrens 300 etc. My motto "I'll go anywhere a GS will go" and for a whole lot less money.

This bike has done well but I purchased another and wife says one is enough. :(

I like the bike options. And the guy offered me some wiggle room. There are things on the bike I am not sure if I am interested in. So I will sell them and get some of my money back if I buy this one. Right now this bike is number one on my shopping list.
But Towpro's friends bike is a close second. At half the price an lower mileage its hard to ignore. But its not as clean as this one. But I am told its got its share of scratches from being down on both sides. No cracks, just scratches. I am waiting on pictures. I don't mind my bikes being a little rough. I won't feel bad about trail riding it. Once I see pictures I might just save my pennies and get the lower price one. I would prefer which ever I get to already have a PCIII , luggage rack, skid plate and heated grips on it already.
