Well so here I am: finding a bike here. And after spending some time on and, I am a little bit disappointed by what's on offer. I was sort of hoping there'll be more 600cc here in HK, but it's sport or SM here.

Clearly HK is a "Day-trip" land (unless I've missed the website that explains how I can go into China from HK by rode on a HK registered bike).

I'm not keen on sticking to tarmac all the time, I'm not a really good off-roader but I've heard of some nice tracks in the NT.

So what do you guys have/recommend? I've seen quite a few dual-sport here, but all supermotarded

Heard there's still a grey Super Tenere over at the Yamaha showroom?
But yea due to the urbanization, you probably find 95% of the bikes here as asphalt oriented...

Compared to what I was used to in Vancouver, Canada I'd say we're pretty safe here where not many people buy comprehensive insurance.

Taiwan is a much larger place where touring on a bike is nice.... there's a lot more companies now catering to renting out bikes like in Japan; never too late to relive the life =)
Mines parked in an alley on HKI near Wanchai, no problems at all after several months. Two locks, bike cover, chained to a lamp post, they'll go elsewhere.

You are not alone. I'm also looking into getting set up out here. Currently running an XJS1200, which is fabulous - but not off road. Been eying up either a CRF250 or XT250. I'll post when I get one. Meanwhile, good luck.

I'll be in Hong Kong for a week in May.
Always interested in checking out motorcycle gear.
Any good stores you can recommend?

I get most of my gear and other stuff at motomart ( ) Biggest selection I know of in Hong Kong and friendly service. + when you buy there for some time you'll get their member card, which means 10% off..

Also, Sanwa motorcycle Co. ( ), bought my Sidi Adventure Gore Tex there and with a bit of bargaining managed to get them for more than 10% less than the already good usual price (compare to the US for example)

Enjoy the time in Hong Kong!

Hey HKFF's!
I'm here now too. Who wants to hook up for lunch and help me hunt down a bike worth buying?
