If you find yourself in the St Cloud, Mn area towards the end of the day, I have cot space available and can put your bike in the garage over night.

Hey, I have shop space and an indoor bed if you are in the Fond du Lac WI area as you need to overnight. PM me if interested... Sure some locals would come drink my beer with you too.

Update time!
Thanks for all the replied guys, as well as the offers of places to stay! I'm in Toledo right now and with all the suggestions of Michigan, I've decided to go North. The ferry from muskegon would be real cool and I could have timed it well to catch it this arvo, but it doesn't start operating till tomorrow. I could diddle around and catch it in the morning, but Sleeping Bear Dunes looks great, and then I can catch the bridge north into Wisconsin. So that's my plan for today - back roads north west to the dunes and see how far I make it.

Regarding the accom offers, they're greatly appreciated, but it looks like my route is taking me further north this time round. I'll catch you some other time for beers! And if anyone is ever in Saskatchewan, give me a shout!

Also, I do intend to put a RR together after this trip. I'll make sure to throw a link in this thread when I do.

Regards,

Jason

You might want to spend more time in Michigan. For some reason that nasty weather to the west is stalled and we have a nice forecast for the next week. There is excellent exploring to had in the Sleeping Bear area. There are many hard pack back roads that lead to beautiful old deserted farms and beaches. Check out the visitors center in Empire, they have maps. I should go up there myself......If your in Glen Arbor go to Arts for grub. There is a campground just down the street from Arts too.

Exoff-roadgoad, i would have liked to spend more time in MI for sure, it's been great. Lots of roads that aren't paved, beautiful eastern shore of Lake Michigan, and so on. Made it to Sleeping Bear a short bit ago and did some exploring, although not as much as I'd like. I'm in Traverse City now, and planning to see how far north I can get on the 31 towards the bridge before dark.

stay in petosky at super8 tonight, in am then head for petosky state park, it has a nice beach area. Ride tunnel of trees in AM, past wilderness sra, across the bridge and stop at michigan welcome center.
There is a free riders guide that shows best riding roads in the UP.

The Comfort Inn on the north side of Petoskey is nicer than the S-8 and is about the same price. The tunnel of trees is a MUST ride if your in the neighborhood. The weather to the west is dreadful! I wouldn't go any further than Marquette until things die down. H58 from Grand Marais to Munising is awesome!

For give my possible ignorance since I have never ridden there, but it seems to me that he should get across the Mackinac Bridge before it gets too windy?

Warm temps and light winds forecast for Mackinac Sat. The same can't be said for western UP....Some ski areas in the UP are still open. Weird.

Bummer, I am too late to the party. I am in Traverse City.

Tunnel of Tree's is a must if you can... or did?

Good Luck

Well, I'm in Iron Wood, MI now, and heading to Duluth next. Winter hit me hard in the face about 100 miles east of here. I made it over the Mackinaw Bridge last night, and went about 40 miles or so past it heading west. It looks like I missed out on the Tunnel of Trees, which I'm sad about. I did get to the sleeping bear Dunes, though.

I would hole up for the day.

Supposed to be reasonably nice tomorrow and stunning from Monday on.

Ended up snagging a cheap motel room for the night in Grand Rapids. Morning started off nice by Mackinaw, and then regressed to 32, snow, rain, mist, and fog. Gross. I did 475 miles today. I'm pushing due to a slight change in circumstances regarding my insurance... Will hit Minot tomorrow, and the border Monday morning. Not ideal, but I roll with the punches. I definitely will be back to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan in the future. NY and OH didn't do much for me, though.

That's because you were in the wrong parts of NY and Ohio. They both have awesome riding. Good luck with the weather.

Hey guys, just want to say hi and thanks again for all the recommendations back in May when I started this thread. Here's a link to the ride report that I've been writing. I just got to the day where I started this thread and was reminded of it. Enjoy!
