690 Enduro/SMC aftermarket seats

Choosing an aftermarket seat for any bike is always controversial but it is nice to hear everyones opinions. I have experience with seatconcepts on my bikes but want to see all my options for my 690. These are the options I have found, all ranging from $150-$700. Are the more expensive ones worth it? Maybe, let's find out!

Seatconcepts, Ktm powerparts ergo seat, Russell, Baldwin, Renazco, Corbin, Touratech, Gutz racing and Local seat upholsterer.

Of course without even looking at the prices I like the touratech. Most expensive of the bunch followed by Renazco, Russell and Baldwin. The upside of Touratech seats is you dont have any downtime as they come with their own seatpan. Corbin is well known and makes great seats but there is nothing really special about them. You pay for the logo. Gutz racing makes a motorcross type seat but I have never heard any feedback from anyone with one of them. The ktm ergo seat looks to be a nice seat if you want to keep a similar shape of the stock one. This is one of the few gel seats offered for the 690. Seatconcepts makes a good seat especially for the price but does not work aesthetically with the bike in my opinion. A local upholstery shop can usually make a nice seat customized for you. Prices vary and so does quality.

If I am missing any please let me know so I can update this list.

New Seat Concepts (Mold) for 690 2012/13

I picked up a new seat from Seat Concepts 12 days ago. A just released 2012/13. It is not as wide aft and is NOT 15mm lower.

I've got about 300 miles on it: 200 asphalt, 100 intermediate dirt.

VERY noticeable on Fwy (better) as it eliminates a lot of vibration as the foam interacts with the road vibrations more softly (muted). My butt doesn't remind me I've been riding as early: stock = about 75 minutes; Seat Concepts around 150 minutes. When I hit something hard on dirt I push into the Seat Concepts, on stock, it was more of a soft jolt: impact telegraphed through the foam.

I'm super happy I made the upgrade, and price was noteworthy compared to the other brands.

Total with shipping to GA was 285.

Best purchase I've made so far for the 690. Made it a lot easier to commute on :)

Just ordered the Seat Concepts for myself as well, less seat pan.

Anyone try and install the foam and cover themselves or is this best left to a pro-upholstery?

I have the seat concepts seat +pan (ordered complete, $300 shipped to CA) and I'm still evaluating it, but it's definitely improved over stock. One thing I'm not sure I like is that it's a foam seat, shaped differently than stocker.
On my dirt bike I have an enduro engineering gel seat, and it's very comfortable, I was hoping for something more gel-filled than foam. KTM has a powerparts gel seat for the 690, has anybody tried it? I'd hate to buy it and have it be only a little better than the stocker.
If the gel powerparts seat is pretty comfortable, I may have the seat concepts one for sale..

I cant decide which to get. I have seat concepts seats but I feel like my 690 needs something special. I have been leaning toward the touratech seat pending any bad experiences from other owners. The renazco is a good looking seat but I dont want to send my seat away!

Any other opinions out there? For the price this touratech/kahedo seat better be damn comfy!
