did some test riding today after playing with the ohlins suspension for the first time , have it on the bike since more then a year , but never touched any of the settings , , had some advice from another forum member and started testing ,

difficult to find out the ideal setting, but it's already much better handling offroad then I rode it the past year ...

quesions about the XT660

HI!!

well I am in the market for a midsize do it all motorcycle! and I see this XT660 as a front runner. Since this bike is not available in the USA I can buy it in my country for an expensive price and I was wondering what current owners say about it.

What I would like to know is simple
a) mpg? mph?
b) comfort. I would use it mostly street and many more 2 up miles than dirt
c) does it vibe? it is a thumper after all.
d) any other information you may have.

For reference I have driving a KLR and think it is normal height (every else is short), it's vibes are ok for up to 10 hrs. The VStrom 650 on the other hand is not tall, it is smooth and that is a good thing for me.
Thanks

Have a read through here...

http://www.xt660.com/forumdisplay.ph...ysprune=&f=129

Mine does not vibrate at all...I have the bar ends removed(for hand guards) and I can ride long days in the saddle with no vibe issues. A very smooth torque engine once you remove the anti pollution rubbish.

I get about 5 ltrs/100km or 46 US mpg(best I've had cruising is 62 US mpg)

I can sit all day on the autoroute at 120-130km/h with bursts to pass cars to about 140km/h... I get about 155km/h max...according to the speedo that is.

Last run around the Verdon Gorges (France)I got 500km on a tank full with mixed easy riding. (23litres)

Do a search on www.fuelly.com to see what others get for economy.

Fine for two up traveling too.

Have look at my Morocco ride report if you wish.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=841901

I have 18,000kms on mine to date with no problems to report. A rider on the xt forum has over 200,000kms on his with no problems either.

...and here....

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...hlight=romania

..and here...South America to Alasaka to Key West and I think he only changed tyres and sprockets etc

WIBO!!! thanks!!!

I know this bike is a great one!! maybe one Yamaha USA will bring it so I can save a couple thousand dollars. In Mexico it cost about $12,500 making it more expensive than a Vstrom650, the KLR650 and Versys 650, and the GS650 single from BMW

100-120 km/hr is what I do, and having extra for passing it is great.

Thanks! I will see you ride report

No problem....

Here is our Maroc video....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZO9O3PEraE

It's a good moto for this kind of traveling with basic suspension....one tool to do all but you have to know it's limitations. Rough trails and lanes are OK but not big,big air or anything goofy like that.

a) 4,5 L / 100 Km. I'm able to do more than 500 Km with a full tank (23 L). I've been able to do 150 Km/H with no issues, but i find it cruises better at around 4000 RPM and 110 Km/H.
b) I do a lot of highway commuting (around 80 Km daily) and personally, I don't think this is the best bike for this type of riding. A Triumph 800XC has a much smoother engine. But, for dirt stints, I still find the XT660Z is better suited, due to it's simplicity and enough power. All the original reviews mentioned this bike was always more suited for off-road riding.
c) Yes. I have a few issues with this, specially after removing the weights on the bar, due to the Touratech hand protectors. I've been thinking in changing to another bike, probably the S10, due to the annoying micro vibes in the hands and feet. I'm buzzing just thinking of it. It's something that you don't notice in the dirt though.
d) The spokes will rust over time. It's necessary to replace the spokes for a stainless steel set. The non-ABS XT660Z is by default taller than the ABS version.

aa trip to vegas! sounds like fun.. but I fear this will end up costing so much money....all the gambling and all. Just a question, where did you buy it? since it is not for sale in the US, Canada? or EU?
