Not a 34 fan, but this article was the very best I've ever read from Kevin. I loved it. Maybe it was posted earlier, but I've not been on the site much lately.
+1 Great summary of the race.

I think there's a lot of smoke and mirrors about the specs of the various M1s though and the straight line speed difference between Cal's M1 and Rossi's at Qatar was striking when compared to the Hondas. That fact alone contributed to Cal's inability to pass Marquez and Pedrosa more than any lack of ability (mental or otherwise).
Same 2013 spec motor. An over the hill Rossi didn't have a problem passing all three.

Pol appears to have a lot of work to do before he can take that WC home. He's hardly off to a roaring start. It would be awfully funny if he gets signed and somebody else (Redding) ends up winning it.

Rossi ran out of fuel on the cool down lap. Cal had plenty left. Cal's motor may not be allowed to rev as high as Rossi's (I don't know that, but it is possible), but there was also a miscalculation in fuel management.

Hes a 9-time world champion, and you dont get those titles from the morning cereal boxes, do you? His age is not helping him at this point, but I believe he will be there this year, and at least take a few race wins, maybe even challenge for the title... though for that one he must stop at once the "trend" of losing points to the three Spaniards.

Moooojello mate. I reckon he'll have it sorted by then.
It needs to be remembered that this isn't the same bike he left a few years ago!
He's not gunna just jump on it and resume.....they'll need to get it sorted for him. And me thinks they will, by Mooojello. Hope so, it's a long way to go from OZ to be disappointed! (And as everyone would/ should know, I'm not exactly a 46 fan boi. But NEVER right off a champion!!)

This. The factory fueling is more accurate. They have more fuel for the race, which is why they are faster. Running out on the cool down lap is perfect usage of the available fuel volume.

True. It is the Ben Spies badluckmobile. Cursed.

How long until the swingarm breaks? Or until the handlebar grip slips off and he ends up with bruises around his neck from a lovers quarrel with Hector Barbera?

Yeah, I don't buy that. Apart from the fuel consumption difference already pointed out, the two Hondas gapped CC every time down the straight so that he spent the rest of the lap closing the gap again only to lose it again next time. Rossi didn't lose anything on the straight. Maybe not just the engine I'll grant you, maybe ability to get the power down as well but the difference was significant in my (possibly biased ) eyes.
